Hi all, I have type 2 diabetes along with a neuropathy. Besides BG is there anything else to do? I know I have to be very careful with my diet and exercise to prevent further nervous system damage but it can be difficult when I have to travel. So far, I have been fortunate that I can get healthy foods when I'm out nevertheless I constantly worry about it. I'm good about measuring my sugar levels on time and monitoring that closely but there are still times when my sugar levels are way to high. Does anyone know of anything that would be useful in my case having a neuropathy? Thanks.

Hi, I have diabetes type 2 and I have a neuropathy as well. I don't know what king of neuropathy you have but I have retinopathy. I'm wondering if you have a leg/foot neuropathy. Nevertheless both are bad. It's very possible I will lose my vision and the concerns me greatly. I just don't know what I will do if that happens. My retinopathy occurred when I was pregnant. I had a terrible time keeping my blood sugar levels managed and I gained way to much weight. I was heavy before I got pregnant. I should have lost the weight before I became pregnant. It's too late now. The only thing I can suggest to you is to watch your diet closely and keep exercising as best you can. Exercising is extremely important to keeping the nervous system going. If necessary, you can exercise in a chair. Keep those arms and legs going to maintain good circulation and muscle tone. You don't have to do a lot at one time. Do as much as you can and then come back to it later in the day. Just keep going. You might want to talk to your diabetes manager about the best exercises for your particular case. That way you won't do the wrong thing.
