Hello,
I have really embarrassing problem… My stomach makes these noises, like gurgling … I know everybody’s stomach makes noises, but mine are really loud. So loud, that I have to leave class, because I am ashamed… Has anyone any idea why I have so noisy abdomen?

Hey,
I also have this problems… so I went to the doctor and she gave me some useful advices, connected to nutrition. First is, do not chew gum, because this produces more saliva and the consequence is noisy abdomen. Noisy abdomen could be also cause of gases trapped in your body, and those could be cause of rotting foods in your digestive system (digestive system is not doing well it’s function) and also lack of exercise.
Try eating more diverse food, lots of cheese, protein. Try to eliminate sugar for a while from your diet and observe if situation improves. Try not to drink carbonated drinks… That’s it form me…
Hope this helps.

After keeping a log of what I ate on days that I had class, I was able to discover that I could avoid this trouble with loud digestive sounds by not eating wheat bread and not drinking milk. I think there are other foods that, to a lesser extent, can cause a problem, but wheat bread and milk are definitely trouble-makers for me.
Strange though it may be, what are called "sprouted" wheat breads that you find at the health-food stores in the States are actually fine for me. I am not affiliated in any way with the bread companies or the health-food stores. This post is actually the complete truth, written to try to help people like me.
As a side note, I never had this trouble with wheat bread or milk before a year and a half ago. Not sure what happened. I did get traveler's diarrhea around that time...but who can say for sure?

Well, 10 months later, there are still symptoms, but I have more days where everything is fine down there. One thing I'm fairly sure of now is that eating too much bread, fibrous fruit, or even rice can present a problem. Making sure to cook my veggies also helps me. Ignoring the widespread (and possibly misguided) belief that saturated fats are evil may help you find a diet that keeps you fueled and also quieter...Apparently heart disease has a lot more to do with stress and other things than saturated fat, a nutrient that only becomes a problem when these other issues are present.

Some reasons that I think doctors wouldn't necessarily know what cures this problem are that a) everyone is different b) patients themselves might not have great data to give their doctors and c) this problem might not have any easy, bulletproof solutions.

Yeah, after cutting out rice as well as the other grains, I've found the past couple weeks to be miraculously improved. This diet change has worked in my case, so I would recommend avoiding all grains--including the night before--and seeing what happens. And in general, keep trying, learning, and recording what seems to help and what doesn't. Don't be afraid to try an elimination diet, where you check by experience whether cutting out grains or other things can help.
