I seriously think i have figured out what I have and I think most of you have the same problem. My fingers started to feel numb about 2 weeks ago. The skin on my thumb and index finger also started to feel thick. Also, my feet felt like I burned them. It felt like I walked across a hot parking lot or something similiar Hands felt the same way. They burned if anything even warm touched them. I went to my primary family doctor and they did blood work. My results came back that I had hypothyroidism and vit D deficiency. After researching further I determined that if the hypothyroidism goes untreated for a long period of time you can get what is Myxedema. That is what is causing the thicking and then peeling of the skin on your fingers. It mostly affects the thumb and index finger but can spread to all fingers. Similar feelings in the toes of your feet. PLEASE see your doctor and request to have your thyroid checked. If you have these symptoms the next step in complications can be a Myxedema Coma which is life threatening. I have been having heart palpitations as well. When I called an endocrinologist this morning and explained all this and told them about the heart palpitations they definitely said I needed to be seen very quickly and I have an appointment tomorrow.

You might check if you are taking anything orally that interfers with proper digestion, such as antiacids, or perscribed antiacids. I would first try taking a B100 vitamin. If you see improvement - and it might take a few weeks - then try enzymes. Because if this works, you likely aren't getting enough B vitamins from your food, either your digestion is at fault (too little acid to digest the food), or you aren't ingesting enough foods with the available Bs.

B vitamins are certainly good for nerve transmission.
For all those with this condition, be certain you do not have diabetes. Once that is ruled out, if it is back to dermatitis, know this: dermatitis means inflammation of the skin
Why this is occurring in each case could be for difference reasons - or all the same. In the case of a fungal infection, it is frustrating to try creams and ointments to no avail. In any case, ointments usually are better when skin is peeling and the point is to keep moisture in and provide a barrier.
Also, changing hand towels more frequently or switching to paper towels for a temporary period of time will help when the cause is fungus, bacteria, and other microbes that love thirsty, damp towels.
When this happens to toes, pay attention to your sheets, bath mats, socks and slippers. When were they last cleaned? Or, were they cleaned with something new?
Just some ideas that have helped me in the past...

I have been studying this, and many other things going on with people lately, and I will tell you what it's from. You won't get this from any doctor, I can assure you. Have you noticed all the lines in the sky since 2009? You must, as they are spraying everywhere. Well I have studied these aerosols at Cal Tech, and the aerosols contain DNA Nanotubes. They are inhaled by populations around the world. It's a UN sponsored agenda, but I won't go into the details here. You, and all of us, have networks of DNA Nanotubes among other things, growing inside of our body. They eventually come out, usually from the extremedies. The tingling sensation is the fibers exiting your body. Google Morgellons disease, which is not a disease at all. It's nanotech poisoning. If you have an efficient production of the MPO exzyme, it will not manifest into Morgellons. But it is inside of everyone who breathes.
Most people will not listen, until it begins to effect them. You are being poisoned. This is a fact, take it for what it's worth. But a hand held digital microscope. Look at your fingertips. You will see blue fibers growing from them. Those are nanotubes, they are synthetic DNA, and they replicate just like our own DNA.

I was sitting in the Dallas airport when I found this site. I knew immediately what was wrong with my thumb. I read enough to realized it was definitely dry air and in addition a possible allergic issue too. The only thing I could find to buy was Chapstick. It turned out to be a lucky choice. The added wax helped seal my thumb thus it stopped splitting layering..... hard hand lotion is half wax half oils. I made this already at home so I grabbed it as soon as I got home. It seals skin and the oils help. No it is not all gone but light years better.

I am 58 and this winter my thumb and index finger on my right hand started getting so sensitive. Then the skin was so dry and scaly and it would lead to deep cuts which hurt so much. I was not able to button my jeans or touch paper it got so even warm water would hurt, cold water seemed to help. I tried vaseline, Aveno skin relief cream, I even went as far as buying an antifungal cream (clotrimazole cream 1%) and nothing would help..I was actually crying..I had used O'Keeffe's healthy feet in the past and it worked for me and it dawned on me to buy O'Keeffe's working hands hand cream. OMG what a difference..In just a few hours I was able to wash dishes and kept reapplying the cream all day long every chance I got. It worked for me and I hope it works for you..Good luck..

This exact condition started happening to me in 1992. It frustrated me for 20 years! Finally I discovered that it completely goes away if you avoid gluten products! I have been on the Paleo diet for three years and the only time the skin on my fingertips gets hard and peels again, is if I have eaten somewhere and perhaps had a sauce or soup that was thickend with flour. You must try this!! You will be amazed and grateful that you found the answer!

Hope this helps
