THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO ME BUT THE DOCTOR SAYS MY WEIGHT SHOULD BE COMEING DOWN
Reply
After about more than 4 years taking Synthroid, the dr not believing me and being careful with my health (watching what I eat, keeping fit and taking my pills everyday), I have been told that I'm dropping my dose and I finally started losing weight (about 20L in 3 weeks - after intense daily workout). I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully I will get back to my ideal health weight and stop needing Synthroid. One day.

As for those of you who think about stopping, I don't think I would recommend... at least talk about it to your doctor so they can control your way out of it... remember that the thyroid is a important gland to the human body and that if you mess it up, they might need to take it out and if it's the case then there are no way you will ever live without a daily dose of meds. It's sad to say and I wish they was a "natural" solution, but the only thing I think one can do to get rid of they Synthroid prescription is to work hard. Yes, it's not easy. Lets stand together and fight.

I'm going to continue working out and eating healthy; I hope one day the Synthroid will be a thing in my past.

I just starting taking Synthroid about two month and i notice the bloating right away. I starting gaining weight. I decided on yesterday to take this medication because of this problem. I had not read the comment listed by others until today. The statement are true this medication does cause weight gain. I had the right half of my thyroids removed many years ago and was put on medication. During the period I was taking the medication, the doctor kept increasing the amount. i went to visit other endocrinologist and doctors and was told I need the medication my thyroid are fine. I have never had a big stomach and now it is quite bloated. I done with that medicine. Can you give me some advice on natural remedies for thyroid function.

I recently just started taking synthroid in the past month and I couldn't understand why I look and feel sooooo bloated. Instantly my stomach has become hard and round.  I have not changed my eating habits. I also take phentermine to help with appetite and energy and I have noticed since taking the 2 together that the phentermine is not helping as it use to. I have always lost weight when taking phentermine...but now I'm not. When I took levoxyl for my thryroid I maintained and lost weight. Why would a generic not have the same effects as the synthroid?  I'm going off of it.  It is making feel lousy, tired, and I dont want to gain another pound or look pregnant when I'm not :o(

Hi Gi,

I've been taking Synthroid for almost 5 years now. It first took a while to work and I start gaining weight before the fatigue went away. I saw a different dr that told me I should also have Liothyronine (cuz the Synthroid alone wasn't being well adsorb) Once the fatigue went away, I felt myself again... with a little extra weight. It's sure is difficult to lose it, doesn't feet good mostly when you are are fit (everyday) and if I would go back to start the synthroid my now me would tell my past me to reduce the amount of intake... because when you thyroid is under working, you eat more because your body is not finding the energy and crave more... anyway it's not easy.... but it's all worth it. After gaining over 40lbs in 4 years on Synthroid, I not only started losing weight (30lbs!!!! after a revised diet and boot camp fitness classes) and you know what, I finally started dropping my level of synthroid. I have hope that one day my dr. will say that I don't need it anymore (yes it's possible, your thyroid can start acting normal).

I though about quitting after 3 months on Synthroid.... but my friend told me that his brother, with a thyroid issue, decided not to take the medication and later was told they had to take his thyroid out. He now will have to take thyroid pills for his life. --- Our thyroid is important for the regulation of our body and I don't want to be left with no hope of getting off the pills one day... I think it's possible. And I know that the my weight situation is going to be back to my ideal one.

Thank you thank you thank you all.....i was feeling like i was losing my mind..i have only been on synthroid for almost 1 month but just this past week my stomach is soooooooooooo big....i hardly eat anything.....my stomach is always growling...churning and I have horrible heartburn, gas and indigestion. I have been working out for over 1 year and lost 35 lbs. but this is making me blow up....i also noticed i have a dead libido...whereas before I had an insatiable sex drive. I started taking it after a series of very uncomfortable palpatations and a low thyroid level. It isn't worth it to me to take it....I have to stop and see how I do....I just simply cannot live like this.

This is incredible!!!!!  I rarely go on sites like this, but this time I am so glad I did!  All of your stories are so familiar.  I too have been on Synthroid for the past few years and have noticed a dramatic increase in my weight particularly in my stomach!!!  A problem I NEVER had before going on this medication.  I want to go off, but I'm so scared of what might happen if I do.  Please, if anyone has any suggestions on how to get off Synthroid and treat hypothyroidism naturally, I would be very interested.  Thanks again everyone.

I am currently on .2mg Synthroid. I was on .5, then .75, then .125, now .2

It seems like the more they increase the dosage, the more weight I gain. I always had a problem with weight, but never in my life have I been this big. I am bloated, swollen and very overweight.

I would like to get off the Synthroid, but when I try to reduce the dosage, I become very lethargic and have unbearable muscle pain. I also have fibromyalgia.

Any help you could provide would be most helpful!
