Well, I'm a 46yrs young female. I've had one swollen tonsil for six years with absolutely no symptoms. I discovered one day by feeling a slight "thing" in my throat so I took a flashlight and saw it. At that time it looked like a clean shiney piece of skin stretched into more of a ball shape. My throat doctor ruled out any of the above with tests. He has stated on both my visits..."if it's not getting bigger or bothering you in any way....we'll just leave it alone." Now it's elongated almost like it's starting to mirror the Palatopharyngeal arch. My urine test results came back with a high number of squamous epithelial cells but it's common for lab results to have been contaminated. But - it does make me wonder if it's something more serious but taking years to fully develop into something life threatening.

I have the same problem. Tonsil stones are very uncomfortable. Has she had it removed yet? or has any treatment been done? Ive had rather large tonsils my whole life and has severe sore throats as well. My parents never bothered to get it checked out or anything. Ive just lived with it my whole life. Tonsil stones come a lot more frequently now and they get very annoying. I still havent seen anyone about it.

Beg to differ with you, they do exist and I have experienced these first hand. On more than one occasion popped some out of the crevices of my inflamed tonsils.

I use to get the occasional stone when I was a kid but now in college I get them more frequently. Recently I had such a big stone come out after suffering for days feeling like I had something stuck in my throat. What helped was doing salt gargles. Now I do gargles after every meal to avoid food getting trapped in my tonsils. I’ve noticed my tonsils getting smaller and looking more healthy. Salt is a great gargle bc it’s basic and helps neutralize your acidic mouth environment. Bacteria loves acidic environments

I also have just 1 swollen tonsil and 1 inch hard lump on my neck. Not feeling well and been into doctors maybe 5 times. I've asked to now go private and see a specialist. It's such a worrying time.
I'd love to find out what your out come was. Hope it's nothing too serious x

Are you a doctor. I am concerned because our 26 year old granddaughter just had her tonsils removed because of tonsil stones. Is this a term that is new or very old. I had never heard of tonsil stones before but our granddaughter was pretty sick before she had her tonsillectomy.

I have same problem. One tonsil swollen for one and half months,. I have visited 4 different Ent specialists 3 of them told me same it needs to be removed and sent for a biopsy. Last doc told me to wait and watch whether it grows or not. So still i am anxiety, googling for actual reason of this problem and its really scary.

I've had a enlarged left tonsil for over a year. Which hasn't caused me any trouble apart from losing y voice completely about 4 times this year. (No sore throat) mentioned it to my doctor on my last appointment and his reply was if i was 10 years older he'd be concerned it was a sign of throat cancer. I'm 30 have 3 children and have been suffering from depression and have been off sick from work the last 8 month's. About 4 weeks ago I had tonsilitis but only in the left tonsil (the enlarged one) I was really poorly but didn't go anywhere and finished taking a course of antibiotics I had at home (i looked up and checked these were suitable before taking them) should I be concerned??
