I'm not a doctor, but last week I started to get sick with an aggressive chesty cough at night, with post nasal drip symptoms. I thought I had the flu coming on, but had no other symptoms. I went to the docs and they thought I had late onset of asthma and I didn't believe this to be true. So I set about finding the reason and pin pointed the problem to new bed sheets that we had at the same time the problem occurred. On further investigation I realised that we had a new hand woven sheet a friend but back from holiday. So I looked in to dust mites. Through research I found that dust mites are nocturnal. So it made sense the the symptoms only occurred at night. It some seems I,m allergic to them so I tried to rid the house of them. I then tested several variations of sleeping close to things on a wooden floor using one item at a time, to identity which items the mites had spread to (if nasal drip started in 5-10 mins the I classed the item as infected. This is the problem even after only 4 days since I was sick they had spread on to many things, I think because we have a dog. So we threw out some things (pillows were the worst), and hot washed others to kill the mites. Anyway, it was sorted in 10 days from first symptoms to diagnosis, I'm now getting better and can sleep again at night. Hope this helps, like I say I'm not a doctor, just somebody who feels your pain.

I've been struggling with this condition for over a year now. Around six months ago I was told I have RAD(Reactive Airway Disease), prescribed Proair HFA and Singulair. The Singulair was worthless but the inhaler seemed to help for awhile, not so much now. I know its my allergies but I don't know which is the trigger or why it only happens at night when horizontal and not every night. It's a bit of a comfort to know I'm not the only one having this struggle. If I'm able to find any relief I'll be sure to let you all know..Aloha

I've been struggling away coughing during the night, but fine during the day. I have asthma too which doesn't help. Although the inhaler does calm my lungs down. Sometimes when I wake up I can feel the mucus on the edge of my lungs and I have to be careful not to breathe in too quickly or I will suck even more in. I usually wake up 3 or so hours after go to sleep and I'm up for an hour, sometimes coughing so hard I throw up. The last few nights I've been coughing so hard I've started coughing up blood in the mucus (not good I know). I feel totally drained when I get up in the mornings, and each day I feel less and less like I will make it through the day, and I stay up later than I want because I'm dreading going to sleep even though I'm utterly drained and fatigued. It truly does suck.
