Unfortuanately, I have to say I am diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Anyway, I feel good, because my doctor told me they discover it in early phase. That is why he recommended me ovarian surgey. He said it should be successful, but still I am afraid. Can you tell me how should I prepare myself, and what doctor will do before this ovarian surgery?

Your surgeon will need to be sure you are fit for ovarian surgery before he does it. You may have had some of these general tests when your cancer was being diagnosed, such as chest X-ray, blood tests, urine test, and ECG. You may have a pre-admission appointment before ovarian surgery. There you meet the surgeon and other members of the team who are going to treat you. Sometimes the tests are done when you get to the hospital the night before ovarian surgery. You will also be given information about your ovarian surgery, to help you prepare for your stay. You should ask there about what things you need to bring in, such as what to wear after ovarian surgery. When you go into hospital for your ovarian surgery, you will be seen by the anesthetist and one of the junior doctors that work for your surgeon. Beside this, your nurse or a physiotherapist will talk to you about the breathing and leg exercises. That is something that you will need to do after surgery, to prevent chest infection or blood clots in the legs when you are in bed. You may be given heparin injections, which will also help prevent blood clots and antibiotics to help prevent infections after and during your ovarian surgery.
