I had a fistula and had part of my sigmoid colon removed three months ago . I was off work for 5 weeks and didn't have allot of pain. When I started eating more food I stared having pain in my lower abdomen. When I had infections before I gad the surgery the pain was always in that same place. My surgeon did a blood test to see if I had an infection. It came back that I didn't gave one. So we did a cat scan. Couldn't find anything wrong. Still gave that pain sometimes and my left side started hurting and it hurts too around my ribs . Just gad an X-ray. Waiting to hear about that. I 'm so frustrated. I gave burning pains too sometimes in my abdomen. My doctor said I should gave no pain.

My 17yr old son is going through the same exact problems after an auto accident severed his upper intestine 8" below his stomach and they also had to remove about 10" of the intestine.... Diarrhea, constipation, multiple bowl movements within a very short period of time, jabbing stomach pain. He misses tons of school because of this and it's been one year since the surgery.
All tests come back okay... ct scans, upper gi, and all lab work. The doctors act like he is faking the pain, we don't understand? The gi doctor even states that she does not know why he has pain, maybe because of the surgery and the auto accident, it is kind of obvious!!!! His primary care physician thinks it is a mental issue surrounding not wanting to go to school and we should consult a shrink. I'm F@&@ing pissed!!!! This kid was 100% healthy and played varsity basketball and baseball, before the accident. I'm thinking a naturopathic doctor and acupuncture is next. As well as switching doctors!

Living like this, try avoid stress as I find stress makes pain worse or lifting heavy objects, but remain active as much as possible hope this helps you in some way don't feel alone

I’m so sorry for all of you going through this. I had a ERCP in August of 2014, the Dr perforated my bowels and I went septis. Another Dr had to open me up from my sternum down to my pelvic to repair the tear and get what infection out he could. Now the next 4 weeks I deloped what they call abscess, which are pockets of infection, so they had to go in and insert these tubes that had balls on the end I had to drain 3-4 times every day. To make the story short, I ended up having 3 major surgeries within 2 months for the infection, and to this day, anything I eat I have this severe pain at the top of my incesion and my bowels have pretty much shut down. I have also had colonoscopy to find nothing wrong. I am at my wits end with this pain that I think I would be better off dead. I do not want to live with this pain, plus have to take enemas just to go to the bathroom. What quality of life is this at the hands of a mistake of a incompetent Dr who doesn’t have to pay for his mistake!! Praying for all of you to get relief.

My surgeon said it is probably scar tissue & adhesions, since my colonoscopy was clear , thank God

I had a bowel resection in 2014. I also have multiple hearnis aromd my belly button. I had excruciating pain some days. It is though my food doesn’t digest. Sometimes it is so bad that i have vomiting too. I especially have pain while standing or walking for very long. I have come to realize that in addition to the “foods to avoid with diverticulosis “ I cannot eat steak, pork chops, game, etc. I usually take aleve every morning before work. It sometimes helps to lay on my stomach. I’m so glad that it is not just me. However, I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Hope you feel better.

I have the same problem with the swollen abdomen, and pain so bad at times, I cry. Had a small bowel resection 1 year ago, they found a polyp over 3ins long, (it had long-gaited it's self) and he took out 2ins of my small intestine. I am still so sick, diarrhea with every bite I take, can't lift anything, have to watch how I bend over, walking is a serious problem for me since the surgery. The Dr. will look at you like you've lost your mind when you tell them how you are feeling, can't wear my jeans anymore, had to get larger ones, something is just not right with all of the problems that me and the rest of you are having. I'm a Nurse and I wish I knew the answer, but honestly, I don't know all this is happening! Could all the Dr's be wrong? Most likely, because they don't want to admit that they may have made a mistake!

I am so tired of the frustration. 3 resections later I have no control of my functions. Nothing sits well. Whether it be eggs, chicken, beef, fish nothing processes. I have full time work and I don’t eat if I have something the following day. I am tired and starving myself to perform my job. Additionally, veggies are the worse. Nothing sits, not even crackers. Hangry to say the least.
What can help? Please don’t say stool Medicine. It causes lockage and unplanned accidents. Nothing like having to return home to change because I deficated myself. Any help is appreciated...

I had my sigmoidectomy (12" worth) July 17th and have pain, sometimes severe in the lower left quadrant where the resection was done. I have been back to the surgeon three times because of pain and he tells me this is normal. I'm having a hard time believing it. He told me to give it a year. I'm going for a second opinion.
