I got a varicocele surgery 8 days ago and i was wondering if it was ok if I masturbated. I do not want to do any damage to the area but Ive heard different timetables ranging from 3 days to a week to 3 weeks to a month? Is it safe after 8 days?

Hi Guys, i have been recently diagonized with left sided verecocele after ultrasound. report says slightly dilated vain on lest sight. i wonder what that actually mean, is it in the beginning stage ??? or will it grow large in the future. my urologist said that verecocele could be the reason for infertility and suggest me for surgery. also gave me a semen and blood test. sadly enough for me in his medication he gave me flow max and after nine day of taking it wen i went for semen analysis, i have an orgasm but no semen. i was like shocked so much. later i came to know its a side effect of flowmax and it gradually goes away. but now after ten days when i masturbate my semen quantity is really low. before this my quantity was much higher. but now wen i masturbate i feel strain in my hole testicle scrotum area and my balls hurts. my testes ache was always mild more of like a dull feeling and after this episode my right testis is starting to hurts also. so can anyone tell me if my semen analysis is positive should i go for surgery or not ??? i mean will my vain enlarge or will it stay like this in the future. i will really be grateful if some suggestion is given, i am scared like hell so can anyone give me some answer.

hi guys! i'm from the Philippines. I always look at this forum so I thought that I, might as well share my experience to help others. Alright, I had a varicocelectomy 3 weeks ago. On my third day, I had wet dreams but nothing happened. After 1 week and 1 day, I tried to masturbate but I realized that my doctor said that I should wait for another week to to do masturbation and sexual activities so I stopped and I wasnt able ejaculate. The next day, I felt mild discomfort on my left testes then suddenly on my right testes. So I asked the doctor, if what I did last night was the cause. He said that its not the cause. Masturbation/ejaculation is not connected to varicocelectomy. They just want us to masturbate two weeks after or have sex after a month so we will not accidentally open up our stitches. After that, I realized that I was feeling the mild ache because from the operation up to the night I mastubated, I was taking pain relievers but the next day, I was not taking it anymore so maybe thats why. I masturbated after two weeks and again on the 3rd week but nothing bad happened to me (although i still have mild pain that time). Now, Im 3 weeks post op and I still have some mild discomfort alternatively in the left and right testes. The doctor says it's normal. Pain is normal as long as it is not excruciating (he gave me a pain reliever in case i experience pain that is not tolerable). Recovery and pain can last up to weeks up to months. ITS A CASE TO CASE BASIS. dont be scared to ask doctors about things or stuffs you are feeling. It's your right. Good luck to all of us. Let's all get well soon!  I hope this helps. :)

DO NOT GET THIS SURGERY I REPEAT DO NOT GET THIS SURGERY NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO

I had this surgery thinking that it would stop the pain in my urethra/testicles.  After I had it all that happened was the area they cut open has had a bunch of nerve damage and constant agonizing pain anytime it is touched.  Even when it is not touched it still painful.  Don't let your Urologist or any other doctor talk you into this procedure no matter what, use an alternative method it will save you a lifetime of pain.DO NOT GET THIS SURGERY

With the nerve damage did you shortly find out you lost control of movement with your left testicle? I used to be able to suck them up and now the left doesn't move at all only the right one goes up

Short answer that I will expand later, no time now, maybe I will write an article on this, because none of the 7 doctors could find what is wrong with me.

After the surgery I had almost every day, or every other day swelling and pain in left varicocele vein, and testicular pain on the slightest touch of the left testicle. It went on for the next 5 years and nobody knew why. What actually helped me and removed all pain and swelling was not eating anything containing white powder, beans, potato, sweets, or drinking alcohol or soda drinks  of any kind. As a result of this diet, I also lost 30 pounds in 2 months without any training at all. But every time I ate or drank any of those things said before, the swelling and pain would came back.  So would the pounds if diet discontinued for the slightest period, even of 2 days. Didn't check if I'm allergic to some of this food, but did get that I have gastritis of some kind.

This helped me, hope it helps you. Will write an article about all other things that it helped, too.

My boyfriend is young, very young (21) and he had this surgery done in February 2012. Over the last few months the pain has returned and it has gotten to the point where it literally makes him sick. When he had the surgery done, they put 13 coils in around the vein all the way down the left side of his body. Now the doctor just says he has to live with the pain. Is there anything that can be done to help him? I hate seeing him in pain.

Hi, I too had a similar experience after Varicocelectomy. I bore the pain out and gradually it vanished. It took about a year. Just take care of a few things. Provide scrotal support, but don't choose an undergarment that's too tight around the waist. Avoid tight clothes. Stay active. Don't sit or stand at a particular spot for long. Walking is very helpful in returning to normalcy. You can even supplement the recovery with a few herbal medicines, though I didn't try any. Also, don't lift heavy weights and don't strain yourself too much. Above all, stay positive.

All,  I am 3 1/2 weeks out since my bilat varicocele surgery.  I am still experiencing pain and my doctor promises me it will get better.  I am on Doxycycline and Celbrex (I am 34).  It has slowly gotten better however there are sharp pains to the touch and bouncing balls seem to be worse then lifting heavier objects.  This is no way to live I know that.  I am wearing tighty whiteys now and hoping for the best.  Would love to hear updates from all who have posted to  see if progress has been made.  I am upset I had this surgery as I had a slight almost painless varicocele and only had the surgery to improve sperm count and motility.  I don't accept that this could be the new normal for me.

Hi all,

I'm 19 and had surgery almost 3 weeks ago for varicocele on my left side, no considerable pain after surgery and was fine 1 week after.

I went to see the surgeon for a follow up 5 days ago which was exactly 2 weeks after and he said it was a success and I agreed because I had no pain and the varicocele was almost completely gone.

In the last 2 days I have slight pain from my left testicle and what feels like along the spermatic cord and I think the varicocele is starting to return again but I'm not sure...

Anyone have anything similar happen?

I'm worried about it because I had no pain 1 week after and now its back...

Thanks everyone!
