I had prostate surgery 1 month ago. Flow now is great. However since the surgery I experience serious burning sensation at the top of my penis and urinate constantly, sometimes I barely make it to the bathroom. Seems like my bladder is out of control and cannot retain any urine. According to lab tests, no sign of infection. Please HELP

Hello, guest, several potential causes or factors could contribute to the symptoms you're describing:

  1. Surgery effects: It's possible for patients to experience changes in bladder function or sensations in the urinary tract after prostate surgery. This could be due to irritation, inflammation, or trauma related to the procedure itself.

  2. Bladder spasms: Sometimes after surgery, the bladder can become overactive, leading to feelings of urgency and frequent urination. This can be due to the bladder reacting to the surgery or the presence of a catheter (if one was used).

  3. Urethral irritation or stricture: The urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) can become irritated or narrowed after surgery. A narrowed urethra, called a stricture, could cause symptoms like burning during urination.

  4. Bladder irritation: Even if there's no infection, the bladder might be irritated from the surgery or from other factors.

  5. Neurological factors: The nerves controlling the bladder could be affected after prostate surgery, leading to changes in bladder function.

  6. Post-operative infection: Even though you mentioned there's no sign of infection from the lab tests, sometimes symptoms can precede detectable signs of an infection. It's good that you've had this checked, but it's something to keep in mind if symptoms persist or worsen.

  7. Medication side effects: If you've started any new medications since the surgery, they could potentially cause or contribute to urinary symptoms.
