It's been four years with and nothing seems to help I cannot stand for about 30 minutes and taking a long walk is a problem too, I nearly operated my leg. What do i do since my Dr have no clue. :'(

I Dont think it is caused by wallet as I put the wallet in the right side which most of the people do. And why always people get this only in left leg.

I am undergoing physio treatment which consists of various stretching excercies. I do relieved my pain. It almost gone. But again after sitting for too long pain starts coming.

So I am not very sure it this a permanent solution. Due to this execerises I am not doing any other work out as that can hv adverse effect.
So to what time I have to contiue this stretching excercises? And does this will hv permanent solution.

Hi this is sorta comforting to read but not all at the same time. i'm a second year university student and current studying fo rmidterms. It is killing me! I have had this problem since grade 10 so i guess almost 5 years. at times its like im used to it until i have to do these mass amounts of studying. I will kneel which hurts my knees after awhile and have tried foam cussions with holes in the middle, exercise balls, and lots of stuff.
I have been to physio and specialists and had a MRI and bone scan. All come up clear and the phisio and specialist say i am stonger, more flexible and have better nerve response than average. I am healthy.
I was told its not sciatica because it never goes below the knee.
If anyone ever recieves and new information please do share it, im sure we would all greatly appreciate it.

oh the only thing that i found to help was acupuncture from lower back all the way down to ankles, it lasted not quite a week and i stopped because after feeling the relief it was harder to go back to not being able to sit and it started getting expensive and wasnt actually a cure

I have the same pain many have been describing. I believe aggrevated playing football, I have had lots of hamstring trouble in the past and this feels very different (but in the same areas). I have only been experiencing this for a few weeks so really feel for those of you who have had this pain for years. Hope the stretches work.

I just stumbled upon this and felt I should reply. I am not a doctor.

About 7 - 8 years ago I had this same problem. I had a pinch in my lower back that caused the pain up and down my leg. Constant pain, I couldn't sit very well, hard to sleep, the whole deal.

From the side an x-ray showed two of my vertebrae kind of pinched together. This caused the disk to get squished out which pressed against a nerve that runs up and down the back of my leg (the sciatica perhaps). I went to a chiropractor for a while, and he had me rotate between ice packs and warm packs on my lower back.
The ice packs were to reduce inflammation.
The warm packs were to loosen the muscle?? I can't quite remember...

First I went to the chiropractor for a while, then I also started stretching my legs and lower back (bend over and touch your toes). Somebody also recommended backwards leg lifts to strengthen the muscles in your lower back, which keep your vertebrae in place. All of this helped me out. I don't know if one of these things worked or if it was the combination of everything.

I had the pain for 2 - 3 years but haven't had it since. I saw the chiropractor for less than a year. I still had the pain after I was done with the chiropractor but kept stretching and doing backwards leg lifts (keep your leg straight and stretch it out backwards, kind of like a backwards straight legged kick... but slowly).

I think bad posture in front of the computer could possibly cause this. If I worked in an office I would spend time every morning stretching my lower back and legs and... of course... doing backwards leg lifts. And try to maintain good posture. Chiropractor visits aren't that expensive either.

In recent years my sister has become a professional massage therapist and mentioned that she helps people with sciatica problems all the time. Maybe everyone is due for a good massage...

Hope this helps.

Peace

Quote:does anyone know how to get rid of this pain in my left leg!!it starts after i have been driving or sat for an hour or so.the pain starts at the back of the leg then travels down to my calf muscle

Did anyone get the solution......
I also have pain in left leg, upper thigh till the buttock. 2-3 months are already gone.

Doctors say it is hamstring tendonities.......
i have given IFT and ultrasone treatment for 10-15 days.. Pain is relieved but after some days it starts again.
Sometimes pain is too much.. usually in morning after sleep..
Stretching increases it i think....

Also please suggest if do i go to physio or ortho... And does it have any permanent solution........
Help is needed..........I am really frustrated. I have to sit in office for most of time which again increases the pain

I have had similar pain when driving.  This has now been Diagnosed as Periformus Syndrome.

The piriformis syndrome is a condition in which the piriformis muscle irritates the sciatic nerve, causing pain in the buttocks and referring pain along the course of the sciatic nerve. This referred pain, called "sciatica", often goes down the back of the thigh and/or into the lower back. Patients generally complain of pain deep in the buttocks, which is made worse by sitting, climbing stairs, or performing squats. The piriformis muscle assists in abducting and laterally rotating the thigh. In other words, while balancing on the left foot, move the right leg directly sideways away from the body and rotate the right leg so that the toes point towards the ceiling. This is the action of the right piriformis muscle

Hey guys, I'm in 9th grade and I've had this same problem for a while. I went to the doc and he said that the issue for me was growing pains which obviously wouldn't continue forever would they. So he prescribed me to take Aleive which actually does subdue the pain for the time that you take it. The dosage is 2 pills a day for 20 days and it works well from my experience. Hope this helps someone.

Today is January 16th 2012 and I clicked into this discussion and see that some of these issues go back to 2005.  I have been experiencing pain from my butt down both of my legs off and on for about a year. Usually it occurs only when I sit and write reports on my computer for say 6 to 8 hours per day. Today, I worked outside in temperatures of maybe 17 degrees non stop for maybe 6 or 7 hours. I am an environmental engineer. Anyway, I don't normally work outside in cold weather.  My legs and butt were freezing. I came home and took a hot bath and now I can hardly walk.  I think the excessive cold had something to do with it. I swim 3 times a week and work out on leg, arms, back, etc machines the other 3 days per week. I do stretches on stretch machines before I work out.  I am not over weight and eat a fairly healthy diet. So I am really puzzled by this horrific pain. I am taking motrin (ibuprofen) 800 mgm every 6 hours and the pain is still bad. Doesn't matter if I stand, sit or lay down.  I read that sciatica can cause symptoms similar to mine. So if this pain is still here tomorrow, I am going to my doctor.  However, if some one out there has found a resolve, please let me know. Thanx.
