As someone with cancer, tumors can be painful when pressed. If the only thing you have is a swollen gland, then it's probably not cancer, but in all cases, have it checked out. Better to be aggressive than not. If you suspect cancer, write down any other symptoms you are experiencing. This can help your doctor diagnose you quicker. Doctors need to know all symptoms you're experiencing, the severity levels, and the frequencies.
PLEASE READ!!
This is maybe a long shot. But I want to tell you because it took years for me to be diagnosed due to my rare illness and the symptoms are similar to yours.

The pain is managed and I get treated with pamindrinate every so often.
I go the the maxifacial section of the hospital.
If you have this please feel free to email me on:
I was/am the first person in scotland with this "illness" and although I do not wish it apon anyone I would love to talk to someone else going through the same thing.

I have had this pain under my left chin at the bone radiating down the front of the neck for several months. I've been to my Drs. 3 times and they said it is TMJ related. It doesn't feel like that at all. They don't feel any lumps but there is a slight swelling. The pain is severe and I am on Ibuprofen and Tylenol every 4 hours. I was thinking could it be a damaged nerve from leaning on my hand while on the computer. I've stopped doing that since it's been hurting.
I'm having similar issues which is why i looked it up and found this site right here but i also looked further. you may want to check out this site its about Jaw joint dysfunction... Take a look it may help.

Been miserable non stop for the past 4 days in a row, going through Tylenol X-strength like candy and starting to resign myself to spend 1000's on dentists as i was convinced it was a dental problem;
Until I read some post here.
So I "exercised" my jaw last night, Going side to side, "yawning", making my mouth and jay all range of maximum motion, massaging the sides and under jaw... was a bit painful
But guess what: this morning I woke up: pain is gone!!
Thanks guys! :-D

I have had and am having a similar problem. The saliva duct gets blocked. If you rub the side of either cheek, you'll stimulate a saliva duct that will produce (duh) saliva. You can probably feel and taste the saliva come from the side not hurting, but won't feel it on the other side.
The first time this happened, I woke up with a golfball sized lump between my ear and chin-- just near the point of my jaw. Went to the doctor and the cure: eat lots of sweet/tart candies-- like smarties-- to stimulate the duct. Rub it periodically. This has helped me in the past and is helping now.

Hey Danny---Same deal, but very localized....Just in one spot underneath my left jawbone directly left of my nose... I wonder if its sinus related? I've been pretty stuffed up lately too...Thats my deal...not sure if you are stuffed up or not?
I have the same thing. I went to the doctor and he told me that i just had an inflammation and prescribed me antibiotics..nothing serious :)
They used to say tumors where not painful it is a bit of a different story now , they used to say if you found a lump in your breast or scrotum or where ever and it was painful you need not worry , not true these days
Thank you! Thats what i needed to hear..
I actually have such wierd pain in my right side.. I have braces and its not a brace pain.. its more like right at the bottom of my jaw.. closer to my ear.. it hurts alot and it will sometimes get shooting pains through it.. I dont really know what to say about it.. if anyone could help me? My mom thinks its just my braces.. but I've had brace pain before and its not it.
I contracted histoplasmosis as a child and had two lumps removed from under my jaw. Might be worth checking out.
What type of doctor would I need to see I have these same symptoms.
Did you ever find anything out? I have exactly the same thing.
Could be TMJ?
