For those that have this happening on the right side under the lower rib cage...random, bubbling pains that come and go...have your dr check for gallstones. Your gallbladder and liver are located in that area and that is exactly what gallstones feel like.

if the pain is with breathing in or out, left, right or both and you have been feeling cold or flu symptoms nomatter how mild please look up a condition called pleurisy, it is where a lung/chest infection inflames the outer lining of the lung where it rubs painfully with every movement, it can be completely excruciating. The suggested treatment is a good course of anti-biotics, if you have any of these symptoms put your health first, problems with the lungs can progress frighteningly quick and you'll kick yourself that you didn't do something about it sooner, school/work and other comittments can wait, don't put off seeking medical advice.

This may help a few people here:

I was hurting so I had to look up what the pain could be. I found a site that perfectly described everything. The "bubble", the stabbing-like pain just trying to breathe in or out, and the "pop" when I got the courage to take a deep breath. It was even in the same area that they describe. Some of the other problems I seen from other people don't seem to be this; however, it sounds like what the original poster had with the exception of it being on the right side.

Hope this helps!

I think that one guy is right, I do have to take a dump. I'm a serious gamer and haven't taken a dump in a while. (lol) I gotta take better care of myself. I was sorta scared about the ruptured lung stuff, cause it sounds bad. But yea I'm having that feeling right now, just not the "bubble" feeling. But it did happen when I moved really fast.

I too had the pain under my right rib for about 2 months and tried to self-diagnose like an id**t until I started getting a slight swelling under the bottom rib. Turns out that I have Crohn's Disease and a fistula had formed and caused an abscess in my abdomen. Once the swelling came, so did the fever and night sweats. I spent 2 months in the hospital an had 8 inches of my intestines removed after 3 surgeries to try to clean up the abscesses. I've now been at home for almost a month.... almost healed up after the butchers took after me and guess what.... just tonight the pain under my right rib was bad enough that I couldn't get out of my chair! Anyways, bottome line is this: Doctors MAY have years more education than you do but they do NOT always know everything (even though they would like you to think that). Trust your doctor, but also question your doctor and get a second, third or fourth opinion if you don't feel comfortable with what they are doing to you.... especially when they're dead set on surgery!

Become a Google Doctor when problems arise but that doesn't mean go to a doctor. It means do your research before going to your doctor so that you can make an informed decision when you get there. If you are having this kind of pain, push your doctor for a CT scan to rule out things like an abdominal abscess and an xray or blood test to rule out TB as it can present itself in the same way. My skin test for TB was inconclusive so I was also given and xray and finally a blood test to rule that out after a MONTH! I know that gallbladder is also a good possibility so make sure to get that ruled out as well.

Anyways, the point is, there are a LOT of things that can present themselves as rib pain so if yours is chronic and doesn't seem to be getting any better then get in and get things looked at. Be informed when you get there an ALWAYS question your doctor! If he/she is any kind of doctor then they will be glad to answer any questions that you may have. Well, hopefully my pain is just gas tonight because I really don't want to have to go to the doctor again in the morning. Two months in a hospital bed was WAY too long for this kid! Good luck everyone!!!

I'm not a doctor, and don't have much knowledge on such things, but I just had this pain under my left ribcage, exactly what the first post was describing. I researched it, and found the article and there is good advice. Worked for me.

"remember, the key to getting rid of the pain quickly is to just work up the courage to take that deep breath, scream in pain, and be done with it."

lol i did take deep breath as deep as i could and it hurt so bad i made a grunting noise, but then i just laughed at myself for being so stupid because now it hurts worse lol.

I've had the similar thing happen to once in a while for about 10 years now, but my doctor has never figured out what it was. The sudden sharp pain feels like it's just in the upper left part of my chest, underneath my breast tissue but quite as deep as my internal organs (lung or heart). Like for you, it will only go away if I breath in or out really deeply, so I force myself to suffer through it and keep breathing in deeply until I feel it "click" away. I've read that it may be caused by inflammation of the tissue, cartilage or muscle between your ribs, something called costochondritis apparently.

Good luck!

the part where you say the pain "clicks away", i know how that is. it happens to me quite a bit. it feels like my ribs snap into place when i breathe deep and it hurts like nothing i've ever felt before.

I am a girl, and the same thing happens to me. When I breath I tend to feel this sharp pain which causes me to have to take very short breath because I fear that It will continue. Even when I am sitting, I feel a really small pain near my rib cage. are there any possible knowings for what this is called?

I have the same symptoms all of you describe, but the pain has gotten worse and now when I take anything more than half a breath the pain spreads to my neck - anybody else experience that? There's also a certain spot in between two ribs on my right side (about half way up the rib cage) that when I press on it gives me a dull pain. Does this sound like "costochondritis" to anybody?

How the hell do you make it go away? This sucks! I'm a young guy, in good shape (though I haven't been exercising consistantly recently) - 6'3", 200 pounds, former athlete. I'm only 31 and I feel like I can barely move without feeling pain :-(

HELP!

It sounds like it could be pleurisy. I've had this myself and what you're describing sounds the sane, the pain, the bubbling feeling, look up pleurisy symptoms and see what u think.Quote:

Your description sounds EXACTLY like what I'm experiencing, including the bubble effect, which I haven't seen many other people write about over the internet. I was wondering (if by any chance you see this) how this ended and if you ever discovered what it was.

I'm 37 and have had similar pains for close to 20 years. I'm a tall skinny guy in great shape, eat healthy, the whole bit. I'm wondering if your symptoms are related to mine. I will have very sharp pains on the mid right (closer to front) side of my ribs. I can't tell that it's underneath. I've never felt a "bubble" or rattle and has never been hard to breathe. Although I prefer to find myself laying flat when it occurs because moving around and trying to do anything else only reminds me how hard it is to focus while I'm in such pain. The pain lasts sometimes for 10-20 minutes and sometimes for over an hour. It strikes me immediately and I haven't the first clue what it is about. I have noticed since I first started having the pains that when I feel them, my heart rate is in the upper 40's lower 50's bpm no matter what I am doing at the time it occurs. Like I said though, I'm in great shape and used to do long distance running and all the everyday stuff that anyone else does.

The only answers I've gotten from a doctor include that when you're young, there is a fluid that attaches itself to your lungs and ribs to help your lungs expand and grow as your body grows... And when you mature into an adult, that fluid is supposed to disappear or be absorbed by the body. In some people though, that fluid doesn't go away (who the hell knows why) and causes your lung to stick to your ribs when you exhale - causing the pain. Although I can't tell that I'm having any type of breathing problem and it doesn't hurt for me to breathe, I do feel a little better about that being what the doctor had to tell me. I went to the hospital once after being curious enough to rack up a bill over it and had all the heart tests and x-rays needed to tell me that I had huge lungs in great shape(for a smoker no-less) and my EKG was normal too.

I'd definitely like to hear if anyone else experiences this in the same way as I do - one other thing I get a pain in my teeth at the same time that feels different than a toothache or headache. You can email me at ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed **
