Symptoms of ITP
The symptoms of ITP are similar to the symptoms of other diseases that can cause platelet countsA measure of how many platelets are in the blood, usually expressed in thousands per microliter (e.g., 50,000) or in 109 per liter (e.g., 50 x 109/L). A count of 50 x 109/L is equal to a count of 50,000 per microliter. to drop (thrombocytopenia)The general term for having platelet counts lower than 100,000 per microliter. Thrombocytopenia can have a number of different causes. ITP is only one cause of thrombocytopenia..
ITP symptoms can include1:
Small red dots on the skin caused by broken blood vessels (petechiae)
Purple spots on the skin (purpura)
Large bruises, especially on the arms and legs, resulting from seemingly minor bumps (ecchymosis)

I have been researching for an answer on this too. Same thing happens on my fingers out of the blue and I also get the burning and extreme itch. Once I have rubbed the itch, the lump ruptures and bleeds under the skin leaving a nice bruise for a couple of days, usually the entire finger is purple. I also experience numbness in the affected finger. Just had one on the bottom of my foot yesterday. That was a first.

I too have this problem. It was just once and awhile and now more often than not.Happened last night just picking a coffee mug out of the dishwasher and now I have a big purple bruise on the inside of my finger. To find a doctor that cares in Alberta, if you can see one at all is a challenge all on its own.
Nice to know that we are not crazy

yup yup... I've got that problem too... Sometimes it happens without even touching anything. literally I'll just be walking and I'll feel that pop happen. A little pain. Then immediate swelling and purple... Usuall goes away in 2 days. Then I forget about it til it happens again. Different fingers too. I've looked through countless discussions on this... Hundreds of people have mentioned it. But still haven't found a proper explanation nor a doctor who seems to know anything about it. I always just assume it's thin blood vessels popping. If anyone else figures this out, please spread the info.... at least we're all in this together! haha... cheers...

ANSWER: paroxysmal finger hematoma or Achenbach’s syndrome or Popped Blood Vessel
I suffered the same as everyone here, maybe twice a year my finger would get a seering pain and would turn purple, either for no reason at all or maybe pinching a blood vessel, or at least I thought.
Cold compress may be done initially to help relieve the burning pain felt on spontaneous hemorrhaging.Warm compress can be applied to the affected hand or finger to aid in the absorption of pooled blood causing the hematoma.Pain medications may be taken but caution needs to be observed especially with analgesics that can further cause bleeding. Medical consultation is recommended for the proper prescription of pain medications.Avoid use of aspirin or any blood thinners to avoid further aggravating the hemorrhage. If consequently taking aspirin or any blood thinners for a certain medical condition, consultation with a physician is advised.Avoid contact sports or activities that can pose a risk of injuring the hands or rupturing blood vessels in the finger.Recurrence of hemorrhage or popping of the blood vessel in the finger is possible and care is needed to avoid further incidences.Symptoms of a Popped Blood Vessel in the Finger
Onset of this condition is sudden or may follow after a minor injury.
Sudden onset of intense burning pain felt in the hand or finger.Sudden localized swelling.Sudden localized inflammation and redness of the hand or finger.Bluish discoloration on the affected hand or finger.

I used to get a hurtful itch on my leg and it would swell and I would apply ice and then it would turn into a terrible bruise. Looked like someone beat me up. That happened several times as I went through menopause. Now in the past week I got the same thing on my ring finger palmside but this time no bruise just a lump like in the vein. No pain just the painful itch and I put ice but it didn't burst, it just sits there like a small pea and it doesn't hurt. I'm wondering if I should see the doc.

This has happened to me for the last 20 years or so - GP says not a bruise but recent forum suggests connected to HMS - might be worth checking this out as can have other issues specially in children. Am going back to GP to get this checked
