For the past 3 months, I wake up with my hands and fingers tingling and swollen, very painful. If I sit up in bed, it seems to go away. As soon as I lay back down, the pain returns immediately. The swollen part never goes away, but the tingling pain does, only when I am awake. I am 57 yrs old and I am very healthy and have a very active job. I also believe I have rheumatoid arthritus in my hands as the middle finger on my left hand is deformed and the ring finger on my right hand is also deformed. I havent been able to make a fist for a very long time.. However, I have had car[ple tunnel surgery on both hands in the past.
