I have it to I pop it (which hurts a lot!) but it comes back! I think it happens when there sweat in your fingers. Its also a bacteria! My hands tend to get sweaty when I play guitar and thats when they come. I just wipe my hand every 5-10 minuets so they don't get to sweaty. Also if you have a pic that works. My friend who also plays guitar got this the first day he played steel string guitar. Same with me only it happens less often as you are more experienced with the steel string. If this didn't help then just trade for a nylon string guitar. hoped I cold help.

I had one of these on the side of my left thumb about a half inch down from the nail.  It looked like a small white pearl was in there and it hurt when I put pressure on it.  I took a pair of toenail clippers and snipped a small amount of skin off the top and gave it a squeeze like you would a black head and a small hard round whitish to translucent core popped out.  It was instant relief.  I had another one on my right thumb about 15 years ago.  I had stuck myself in the right thumb with a snow crab claw and it apparently was the tip of the pincer which remained under the skin.  I removed it the same way I removed the one on my left thumb.

I went to the doctor and she asked me if I had done any lifting recently.  I have one on the middle finger of the left hand and the baby finger of the right hand on the joint.  She said the lifting would bring it out.  She called it a memerdan (probably not spelled right) cyst and it is a precursor of rheumatoid arthritis.

Why when someone says they have a problem and asks if anyone has answers on these forums, everyone has to chime in "I have that too!"?  THAT DOESN'T HELP ANYONE, INCLUDING YOURSELF.  It just means I have to scroll down forever to get to the damn answer.  On top of that, the person that posted the question probably gets email updates thinking someone gave an actual answer, and your

have to waste this dudes time.  Nobody cares if the rest of you play guitar and have a skin callus (not "callous", that's an adjective).  Jesus.

I see I am REALLY late. I'm 15 years old and don't play ANY instruments. I am able to pop it - even though it hurts like hell - but after doing so, I have pain and numbness on that finger... No clue what it is. And whenever I go to a doctor about it, they disappear! They only show on the side closest to my thumbs on BOTH index fingers, getting two-three on each finger.

I know what this is, it's called a milia, they are more common on the face around the eye area. In the case of the eyes, it's usually caused by oily moisturizers. The skin can't absorb the oil fast enough and forms the hard white pearl-like bump. They look like tiny whiteheads but are too deep to pop.
A dermatologist will lance them. If they're near the eye that's the best route. But if you're bent on doing it yourself, and it's on a less dangerous area like the hand, make sure everything is clean and you can remove it with a sterilized needle.
Then put antibiotic ointment on it and a bandaid until closes.
