my doctor says that i have ribs that come out of place, and when this happens it creates the pressure on my chest. The palpatations have stopped for the most part, so i guess he was right in thinking that this is all related to my back being out of alignment. He gave me some exersizes to do to help keep both my back and ribs where they should be. So far it seems to be helping alot. I still have the pressure on my chest but it is no where as bad as it was. Thanks for checking in, take care
That cracks me up!! I had the exact same thing happen to me when I was 19! I was so sure I had an awful heart attack and didn't see a doctor for months. Then one of my dormmates popped my back on accident and the heart issues went away. Cracks me up to hear that you're in the same boat. How are the exercises working?
they seem to be helping, but i had my wisdom teeth taken out a few days ago, and i also caught a nasty cold ( just my luck :-( ) so i havnt really been keeping up with them this past week. But once i start feeling better im going to start them again. thats funny that the same thing happend to you, i had never heard of that being a possibility for the cause of my symptoms before my dr said it. i also feel a little better about the diagnosis now that i know that someone else has been in the same boat.
Yeah, I'm glad to hear that you're at least not as worried as you were! have you been recovering okay? Are you able to work out more than you were able to earlier?
now that we are sure that these symptoms have nothing to do with my heart, i am allowed to work out as much as i like. i have a very hectic schedual between going to school full time and working 25 to 30 hours a week i cant always work out everyday, but i do try to at least 3 or 4 times a week. i do however do my back strenghtening exersizes everyday. they only take about 5 minutes to do so i can squeeze them in before bed or when i get up in the morning. i have noticed a difference between now and 2 months ago. i havnt experenced any palpations and the pressure on my chest has gone from feeling like there is an elephants sitting on me to more of like a brick set on there. overall im pretty happy with what my doctor has done for me and i see him every 3 weeks for an adjustment on my back, just to make sure that everything is staying where it should be.
ap05 tahnks so much for the update! YOu sound a lot better and I can tell that you sound a little more positive. HOpefully you're doing as such and making sure to take time to smile every day. Keep us updated if you have any other issues, okay?
That's really good to hear that you know that the symptoms aren't related to your heart. But has the doctor said to you what the issue is? I hope that you're doing better. Can you give me an update?
the issue is that my back/neck come out of alignment. the verterbre press slightly on to my spinal cord which can disrupt the signals going from my heart to my brain and vise versa, thats what was causing the palpatations. The pressure on my chest comes from a few ribs that come out of place creating the discomfort that i have been experencing for the last few months. I have certain exersizes that i have to do in order to strenghten the muscles in my chest and in my back so that they will hold things were they need to be. He said that it could take a while before they get trained to stay put, even the smallest task can push them out of place. Which is why i need to go back every three weeks, so that he can adjust them back. Overall my back seems to be staying put for the most part, i still have issues with the chest pressure and my ribs coming out of place but it is alot better then it was. Other than that ive been pretty good. Thanks for checking in, take care.
No problem, I'm just glad to hear that you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned that the ribs keep getting pushed out of place--what is the treatment for that? Or is this the treatment for it?
the manipulations are the treatment for it. that and building up the muscles in my chest and back. my doctor says that it takes time but it will get beter eventually.
Did he happen to mention a timeline? I would like to know how long it normally takes. Or is it really something that you have to consider on an individual basis?
no he didnt give me any sort of a time line. i would imagine that its different for everyone.
Your heart palpitations sound like heart arrhythmia--I too have had symptoms like yours for years--thought it was anxiety-told it was anxiety by several doctors. I have always been healthy and active--now in my 40's. I remember having these so called anxiety attacks even when i was in my teens. My attacks started very short (5 seconds-2 minutes), as i got older they started lasting for more than 5 minutes, that's when i started to get worried. My worries turned to horror--I had an attack that i couldn't control. My heart was beating so rapidly--shortness of breath--feeling faint--chest felt heavy--left arm felt numb. My husband rushed me to the hospital--my heart rate was 265 at that point. It had been palpatating for 40 min. when I was given adenosine to stop my heart and to restart it to a normal rate. That was scary and painful!!!!! That's how i found out i have heart arrhythmia (svt--supraventricular tachycardia).
Do not take your heart palpatations lightly!!!! There are many ways to prevent palpatations from coming on. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nonperscription over the counter antihistimines, energy drinks or power bars, cocaine--avoid stress, get plenty of rest. There are different forms of heart arrhythmias--they're basically extra electrical pulses in your heart that cause your heart to go haywire.
There are ways to control your palpatations (vagal maneuvers)--cough or gag, bear down and hold your breath, put face in ice cold water, or rub your eyelids putting pressure on them. If none of those work--your palpatations don't stop--get to the ER!!!!!!
After my attack I was put on bea blockers--had a few more incidences--ending up in er. I opted for a heart ablation rather than be on beta blockers. I am too active a person to live on meds. It's been almost 1 year since my surgery--no incidences. I have had palpatations--symptoms of going into an attack, but have not. I still have to avoid all the things that trigger it--if i don't , i get all the same symptoms again.
Talk to your doctor about the possibility of heart arrhythmia. Don't find out the hard way, like I did, that you have it.

I imagine so as well. I hate to ask a question lik ethat but I kind of do want to know a ballpark estimate though. Did you happen to get anything like that?
