My 18 year old son was feeling sick with stomach pain for a few weeks. People at work had the flu so he thought that was it. Dec26th he woke up at 2am asking to go to the hospital. He was told he had acute pancreatitus. Was on iv for almost 4 days and then just sent home. A specialist was not able to see him until mid Feb. He has lost 50 pounds. I never thought I would say it but thankfully he is over weight. He is so run down, dizzy, tired and such. The doctors keep saying stay on a water diet!!! I just remembered about ensure and other health drinks like pedialite. I picked up a few for him to try. I worry about issues from getting no nutrients. Vitamins make him sick. He liked the ensure but had a problem with the consistency and said he felt sick shortly after drinking one small can. I think we will dilute it and try sipping on it through out the day.
Hi Mewarden,
Did the doctor tell you the suspected cause of his pancreatitits?
You really need for him to find a different doctor if he has lost almost 50 pounds. He is not getting enough nutrition and it can eventually affect the heart and other organs. The infection can spread and severely damage the pancreas as well.
Treatment is often IV therapy since many patients don't tolerate food or drink well.
I urge you to find a different doctor soon.
