I totally understand what everyone's going through. I, too, have suffered with blistering, peeling fingertips for nearly 8 years now. I have been to several dermatologists, all of whom failed to diagnose the condition, or prescribe a treatment to remedy the situation.

The condition origninally started on a thumb or an index finger; then gradually spread to all fingers (and occasionally to the bottom of the feet). It cycles thoughout the month, but never completely goes away. Stress probably does worsens it, but then again, stress probably worsens EVERYTHING, right?!? I've got all the symptoms previously described and am so saddened that noone seems to know what causes it, and worse, what will heal it. Anyone out there know of anything that helps?

My problem has disappeared, as mentioned earlier the peeling has stopped after changing the soap i was using and after taking fish oil capsules, daily.
Why not give it a go!
also whilst your skin is peeling try using Hemp cream or Benpathen cream, they work better than all the rest.

Good to know that thre are so many others suffering from this. Mine started happening when I was in high school and it has happened almost every winter since. I am now 33. The only medication that has worked was prescribed by my pediatrition when it first happened...unfortunatley I've moved since then and no longer have contact with that doctor. She said the peeling was a result of overly sweaty hands and they actually "rot". shae said i should wash my hands often, try to keep them dry and she prescribed a cream that cleared my fingers up quickly. I used it for a number of years with great success. I am trying my hardest to track down the name.

Best of luck to all of you.

I've read this entire thread.

I don't play guitar.

I do workout with weights. Dumbells, barbells, freewieghts, several times a week.

I do paint. With acrylics. Cadmium Yellow, Cadmium Orange and Cobalt Blue are my main staples. Some people will say, "well theres your problem".

I have had cracked heels for at least 5 years now, never thought much of it, thought maybe it was my shoes or something. My fingers on both hands down my palms peel. It doesn't hurt, but just peels like as if they were sunburned. Looks exactly like Keratolysis Exfoliativa.

I also have been having issues with small circular patches on my face that turn red, then flake off.

My index and middle fingernails hurt slightly when pressure is applied and the nails look like they are starting to discolor. They're turning a slight yellowish brown. I also have these tiny longitudinal streaks in the nails.

Some of my toenails have flaked and turned also have ridges.

I have no clue what it is. I was thinking Psoriasis, then fungal then metal poisoning. Now? I don't know. Maybe some auto immune disorder brought on by environmental stresses? (metals, paint?)

I have the same issue. I thought it started when I was in tropical waters in Anguila a few years ago and I touched something on a rock that left little black bristles under my skin. I feel like I got some kind of condition that now returns in certain environments. Has that happened to anyone else?

I have had peeling fingers since I was pretty young. They come and go--mostly they've been gone in the past ten years (I'm 24). In college, I started getting peeling fingers. I realized it was origami--paper is the culprit. Recently, the peeling has started again since I've started reading the newspaper each day. Rough paper, like news paper and origami/construction paper, is the problem. Slick paper doesn't seem to affect them.

I would recommend avoiding coarse paper, or else applying a layer of thick cream like Eucerin before handling it. People have mentioned soaps, fungi, detergents, other irritant/allergens. However, I have not found any of these to cause my problems.

I also get eczema from time to time. Hydrocortisone makes my eczema go away almost instantly and does not help with the fingers, so I bet the two conditions are unrelated.

in response to all that are in pain with sore finger tips...this hurts to type! I have two nails on one hand and one on the other that are all jacked up! It begins with the itchy stage. Then actual small lesions appear maybe 6 or 7 tiny little blisters, then I push on them because they itch so much but also hurt so I just push, and then they bleed. Then theyre sore and they heal. Ive been experiencing this for years.

I keep them dry, clean, and lots of tea tree oil seems to help...SLEEP with it on it kind of stinks. seems to help. but i too am plagued with this ailment I cdont know what to contribute it to exactly.

THE SKIN ON MY FINGERTIPS TURNS WHITE, THEN PEELS, THEN HEALS, THEN DOES THE SAME CYCLE AGAIN, REPEATEDLY. SO I FORMULATED A HYPOTHESIS, TESTED THE HYPOTHESIS, AND, BANG! I WAS RIGHT....

THERE IS HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN TEETH-WHITENING STRIPS. WHEN YOU APPLY THE STRIPS AND TOUCH THE GEL WITH YOUR FINGERS, YOUR FINGERTIPS WILL BLEACH AND PEEL.

NO PERMANENT DAMAGE THOUGH.

Hello. Yes I am 22. I have the problem of all my Finger tips peels through out the year. Cold weather is worst. Right now in the end of May I am having this problem. It will the tumb is the main one that will start and the other fingers will follow. Luckly it is every 3 to 4 months apart. I have been dealing with it off and on for a few years now. has not hurt.. just peeled. Just drives me crazy. It will bubble up a bit the I cut it off with some clean sissors. Then is will began to peel the rest of the way. It will slow down a bit.

Before this I did a contest where I did eat some Ice Cream without a spoon. Not sure if that is what caused this or what. But it Happened a few days after that. Could that of done it. Hate saying this but I and glade that some other people are haveing problems with this. But i do understand. Lets hope we can find somethings out.

I have been experiencing this condition for the last 4-5 years. I am a 32 year old male. I find the guitar connection interesting. I also play guitar off and on, and about travel to jobsites off and on. The jobsites I visit are sanitary food production sites...everything is stainless steel. If I spend a few week onsite, my hands start peeling. Metal contact? Or possibly stress from 16 hour workdays...I'm just getting a breakout now, and I have not been taking my multivitamins for the last 2 weeks or so.

I am a caucasian 29 year old female. I first starting experiencing trouble with all the previously mentioned symptoms during an extremely stressful point in my life. I have continued to experience "flare-ups" for about 5 years. It is predominantly in my right thumb (I'm right handed) and has over the past year started affecting my right index and middle finger along with my left thumb. I do have some similar peeling on the side of my right foot. I also have peeling right along where my nailbed and finger tips meet. As for the guitar connection, I don't play however both my dad and brother do. However, I now live hundreds of miles from them so am never around the guitars.

I started by trying the hydrogen peroxide and it helped for a couple of weeks. I was encouraged, but then the peeling and cracking started again.

So I revisited this site and picked up on the "fish oil" suggestion.

I've been taking 1000 mg capsules (twice a day ... 1 in the morning and 1 at night) for about two months.

I CAN"T BELIEVE IT WORKS!!! My fingertips have stopped numbing, hardening, peeling, and cracking. I have normal finger tips again! I suffered these symptoms for about 15-20 years; nothing I tried during those years helped.

The fish oil capsules (very reasonably priced at Walmart) seem to be curing the problem from "inside" under the skin. I have very, very mild peeling occassionally ... but nothing as serious and as painful as before.
I think with continued use it will stop all together.

I highly recommend that anyone who has this problem try the fish oil.
What harm can it do to try ... it's a natural product. The power of good nutrition ... amazing!!

Hi to everyone:

I am 22 years old right now and iv'e been suffering from finger peeling since I was in kinder. It seems to be cyclical since it cures by itself and comes again every month or two. It happens to almost every fnger except my thumb and little finger. I don't think cold weather is a factor to take into account since I live in a tropical island and it's never colder than 70 :-) .

I get all sort of problems from stress and allergies. I went to a naturalpath and found out all the things I was sensitive too. Best 150$ I ever spent. I have no troubles. I also pray and meditate a lot which helps with stress.
