Just wanted to say that I stopped using Colgate toothpaste many years ago because it caused the inside of my cheeks to peel.
I believe that that may also be the source of your problem.

It actually depends on what type of toothpaste u use because this is the same thing that happened to me. Some types of toothpastes had baking soda in it and that causes my skin inside my mouth to peel. so if u are using toothpaste with baking soda in it then you should change to a different toothpaste. Hope this helps!!! :D
I have the same thing. I remember it first started when I was about 24, now I'm 43. Mostly the inside of my cheeks peel, especially when my mouth is dry. If I have a night out of drinking some beer and/or eating salty foods it seems a bit worse. Yesterday I want to the ball game and had a couple of beers and some nachos. The skin inside aroud my lips is peeling today a bit which is not typical for me.
My dentist has done a test to make sure there's no cancer so I'm Ok here. I've changed toothpaste upon his recommendation but never found one that made a difference. I do have acid reflux at times but am not sure that has anything to do with it. My father says he's also had this for years too. The dentist says it's just a nuisance condition.
One thing I have noticed that interesting: whenever I take an antibiotic for a cold the condition clears up for about a week or two...very strange.

I have the same thing as the last poster. I am really scared it is something that may lead to cancer. I am 44 years old. When I was on a antibiotic I also noticed it went away for a while. It has to be some kind of infection.
That is why the antibiotic makes it go away.

I have been using Tom of Maine Toothpaste that has anticavity, tartar control and whiting in it. I have the skin peeling inside my mouth also and was wondering what the cause was. Quite a few people posted that Crest with whitening was used. But I am wondering if it is the 'whitening' ingredient that is causing the problem since I do not use Crest but Tom of Maine Toothpaste. What is the whitening ingredient anyway...hydrogen peroxide? 8-|
I had to switch to Pronamel and it is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had absolutely no peeling since that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is great. I even tried to use Sesodyne(which Pronamel is made by) and it did the same peeling thing. SOOO...I highly recommend Pronamel Wish you all luck!
wow i just bought crest with baking soda... and i brushed my teeth and i had the inside of my bottom and upper lips burning. so i came on the internet to see if there were other people out there like me, and to my surprise there were... the Baking soda is a strong base thats why it burns our lips. simply dont use anything with baking soda and you will be fine. i quicky bought regular colgate and should be fine to brush my teeh tomorrow after the burning and peeling heal.
i had this same problem and it's gross! i asked my dentist, she said it's a topical alergy from some ingredient in my toothepaste, that one guy that said he's a dentil hygeine student said the exact same thing with the crest and the mouthwash, cuz i was using crest with scope. i switched toothepastes n it's better now ^^
I just got back from a routine dentist appointment. When I asked about the inner cheek sloughing (mostly after waking up in the morning, or after brushing my teeth), she said that it is pretty common. She also said that it may be due to either the sodium lauryl sulfate or peroxide in the toothpaste I've been using. She gave me a sample a toothpaste called Verve Ultra which is SLS-free (sodium lauryl sulfate free). I haven't used it yet, but she said that it may be hard to find. The typical stores don't keep it in stock because most people tend to buy Crest or Colgate. She also said to look at some of the Rembrandt toothpastes. She wasn't sure if they were SLS-free, but they are better than the average Crest or Colgate. Hope this helps!
hi :-) i also have a peeling mouth. everywhere in my mouth, it's always peeling. it isn't painful but sometimes if it peels a lot, then it gets raw and sore. and it's just plain annoying to have bits of skin hanging in my mouth all the time. it started at puberty. my mother also had this (she died 7 years ago and i can no longer get her medical records). my grandfather's sister has it. she has found no other cure except a tea made from chinese herbs. we know that it is a bacterial condition. my mother has a test done. it bacterial, and it only goes away when you're on anti-biotics. only one in something like a million (or more, not kidding) people have it, it's really rare. so i guess the other answers above are some other thing, something else is causing it. i have tried vitamins and some other stuff, but it doesn't work. and it runs in my family, so it's obviously hereditary.
also, it's worse at different times of the month, and it's worse when i'm stressed and so on.
i hope i have helped :-)

To the last poster, what did your mother die from? just wondering if it had to to with anything oral.
Don't get too mad at Crest. I had the same problem after recently switching to AquaFresh 2X Whitening. After swtiching to a toothpaste without whitening the peeling stopped.
I have the same thing as the person that posted on 12/06/09. The peeling and mouth stop when I take antibotics. It cant be that rare because I have seen other blogs where others have said the same thing. I had a biopsey done and it came back with hyperplaysia and bacteria. Hyperplasia is when the cells are rapidley turning over. The doctor said it was nothing to worry about. I think because he had no clue of what was causing it. If the cells are turning over at a fast rate I would think that is not good. I don't think toothpaste would cause it.
this has happened to me, i used colgate sensation deep clean whitening toothpaste which has bicarbonate of soda. it made the skin from the inside of my mouth peel. before that i used aquafresh, i thought i was allergic to the soda but after reading this i see it's the tooth paste change. but when will the peeling stop? i mean i can't tooth brushing my teeth.. oh my mouth feels creased and dryish.

I have been dealing with this issue for years, sometimes it comes and goes, but I have learned that it is nutrition and hydration related. I dont know why, but I have the hardest time keeping myself hydrated, wait, I do know why, I am a caffiene junky. Energy drinks, coffee, sodas, anything with caffiene will do. I then have the problem of drinking water. After drinking all the other c**p, I have no thirst and at times, go days without drinking no water. I been to the doctor over the condition and they always seem to think its harmless. But then I moved, and got a new doctor and he recognized the problem right off before I even sat in the seat. The first thing he said to me before he even began the examination entering the room was, " you need alot of water in your life". He expained to me what he could see right off and told me what was going to happen if I didnt change my habits. Hardheaded, I felt I got what I needed, hydrated for a little while but went back to my same old habits. The problem came back, now I deal with constant kidney and bladder issues, and believe it or not, I am still hardheaded. I been doing this so long, its just hard for me to change. Yeah at first I was paranoid with the HIV and other stuff I had read up on but test instantly eliminated all that. Something as simple as water was the cause of a delema I had been dealing with for 10 plus years. 32 years old now and still struggle with trying to keep myself hydrated. Tried giving up the caffiene but that was an unpleasant experience for me so I tried cutting down, which evenually will end up at the same intake as before. I still tell everybody to get a check up with the doctor and eliminate all other possible causes, but I am sure that there are alot of people would read this and instantly identify with it, so I am happy to share
