Yup! Three MRI's later my neurologist finally determined that I have a buldging disc right there, between the 4th and 5th vertabrae and it's pressing on the nerve. She suggested steroid injections, but I think I'll wait for the whole meningitis thing to blow over before I think about that... in the meantime, Physical Therapy!

I have had this same thing for over a year. So bad sometimes I can't stand clothes to touch the area. I starting going to a chiropractor for an unrelated reason. He is an Upper Cervical Chiropractor that does adjustments by "getting your head on straight" at the brain stem. These adjustments have completely stopped the tingling, itching, very annoying symptoms. Check out Upper Cervival Chiropractor Centers for detail care.

mate ur a legend as soon as i did the excercise once i could feel that through all my other excercise and weight training i wasn't fully retracting my shoulder blades. i could feel the full contraction of the exact area that tingles and noticed how weak it was after doing the excercise a couple of times. strengthening my back as my physiotherapist suggested was making the imbalance between the upper and lower trap worse. hopefully this excercise and an improvement in posture will get rid of this. thanks again :)

I was seeing a chiropracter for poor posture...sitting sideways with a laptop looking down a lot.  The Chiropractor worked out a lot of issues with my sore back, neck and legs..then I stopped going for a while after I was feeling better.   Well, then I started gardening again while lifting big buckets of water which were too far to carry that full, but I did anyhow....well, after I did that I started feeling the things you describe in the same area.  As I continue to have poor posture at a computer all day I find my neck area, and back not getting much better.  I tend to think many people must have lifted something heavy or had some sort of injury without realizing it, and perhaps the tissue is being aggrevated by use or bad posture.  For me it's reaching forward to play with the radio station as I drive or lifted tense shoulders.  I am going to head back to the chiropractor, and see if that helps more, and continue to work with massage as it also feels like it could be a nerve bundle, and need to take some time to release that mess.

What do you think?

I am experiencing this right now...and the most impressive part about it...my dog of six years is not close to me, in fact she was abused and I rescued her and she typically doesn't come up to me, before recently for anything but necessity.

At first it felt like someone was holding their hand on the spot. Now it tingles at times.  Other times it aches with a sharp feeling.  And if I reach up to get something on top of the refrigerator it is an excruciating pain.  Or everyonce in a while I will breath deeply and it feels like someone is cutting me.

To add to my previous post about which exercises you should do for this tingling sensation I have further refined the cause of the problem.

a tight upper trapezius causes a restriction of the lower trapezius. This will be why people experience relief from chiropractor work because this will loosen the cervical spine and upper trap area. If the upper trap is tight or in spasm it will pull the lower trap from the spine causing the tingling sensation.

A way to help this is to interlock your fingers and push them away from your body with the backs of the hands facing away. Start with your hands at waist height and push away focusing on stretching the muscles to the side of your neck and shoulders. Then slowly work your hands upwards until they are horizontal to the floor. As you work upwards hold any tight spots for 30s until they loosen off. You should find a couple of tight spots that you will feel between your neck and upper shoulder blade. Ounce a bit looser you may notice some relief in your tingling in the lower trap.

I too have had the same tingling just at the edge of my right shoulder blad near my bra line.  It began after my baby was born.  I asked my aunt who is a retired massage therapist and she said that when a muscle is cramped or knotted it can tingle.  I have yet to go for a massage but hope to soon.  This tingling and itching is getting pretty annoying.  I've also noticed a stiff neck and some back pain.  I think it is all attributed to the extra work my back is getting from picking up and carrying a baby around all day long.  So glad to hear that I'm not the only one with this mysterious problem.

Doe's anyone know if diet has anything to do with it ? I've been consuming a lot of citric acid via eating bunches of Grapes & drinking Orange (Innocent Smoothies) 9 oranges per 1pint/half for past 3 months and read somewhere on internet it was linked. Try a couple Google searchs on Acid Reflux Tingling Sensation and you'll find people discussing.

I have been drinking Orange Smoothies a lot and was experiencing heartburn and really bad breath when burping. I think mine could be related to excess acid in my diet as also I eat a lot of grapes too

I have spinal lesions detected in an MRI in August of this year, 2012. My doctor said to keep an eye out for any persisting symptoms anywhere at or below where they detected the lesions.  This is because they can grow, change shape, or be cancerous.  One thing that they can do is actually block the flow of spinal fluid, same as cerebral fluid, along the spine.  This has been getting worse.

It feels like tingling under the skin surface and through the muscle that runs along the right side of my spine. It is accompanied by a feeling of swelling/inflamation.

If you have any insights please let me know.  There are so many replies to this post that I hardly got through a fraction of them.  Thanks y'all.
