Just googled left shoulder blade numbness and found this site. Was recently diagnosed with shingles with rash/pain on same side of body as numbness in shoulder blade. Maybe they're related .

I agree with you, I have the tingling also, and I think it may have something to do with shingles. I have had shingles twice now, but not in this location on my back.

It's Notalgia paresthetica. I have it too!

"The characteristic symptom is pruritus (itch or sensation that makes a person want to scratch) on the back, usually on the left hand side below the shoulder blade (mid to upper back). It is occasionally accompanied by pain, paresthesia (pins and needles), or hyperesthesia (unusual or pathologically increased sensitivity of the skin to sensory stimuli, such as pain, heat, cold, or touch), which results in a well circumscribed hyperpigmentation of a skin patch in the affected area."

I had that and I just ripped the spot off and it went away but came back. It feels so weird like bugs inside the spot.

I've been experiencing tingling in the middle back, more on the right side, just below and inside the shoulder blade. After searching the internet and finding nothing, it occurred to me to simply try to reason out what is happening. While my experience might not be what's troubling everyone with this phenomenon, I hope it might be helpful to someone.

First thing was I started trying to make myself aware of exactly what triggers the tingling, and what alleviates it. I noticed that it had specific triggers. I found positions that triggered it, both while standing and sitting, and each time worked on finding alternate positions that made it go away. I finally concluded that what was causing the tingling was putting pressure on the middle spine.

Speaking just for myself, I believe it's nerve impingement, possibly T5-T6, and the tingling happens when I put weight on that part of the spine. Putting weight on your spine happens when other parts of your body are not doing their job.

In short, it may just be that you're letting your tummy stick out. Try this and you'll know for sure: next time it happens, tighten you abdomen, really tight, as if somebody was about to punch you. See if you can shift your position so that it starts to feel better after a few minutes.

It's a little weird at first to always hold your abdomen so tight; when you're walking around it's like you're always in the middle of a pick-up basketball game. I also have had to re-arrange my work environment, raising my seat and lowering my work surface, to keep my elbows low and in.

It's a lot of hard work and inconvenience, basically, and probably will never go away. The spine can only heal so much.

I have the exact same symptoms in the exact same spot! I could scratch it till I bleed with no relief. I believe it's a damaged nerve.
