Hi. My child was diagnosed with periorbital cellulites. His eyelids are red and swollen and he has a fever. I would like to know something about possible causes of his problem. He was prescribed with antibiotics. What are possible complications for periorbital cllulitis?
Hi. My son also had periorbital cellulites and the most common cause is a bacteria infection. Direct trauma to the eye, for example, could be the cause of infection from bacteria. When I took my son to the hospital, he had to do blood test. They also put him on x-ray. Treatment depends on child`s age, the extent of condition, child`s tolerance for certain meds or therapies, and expectations. Oral antibiotics are usually prescribed. Some common complications that may occur include meningitis, loss of vision and brain abscess.
