My husband has just been diagnosed as having pinguecula in both eyes on the sclera. His doctor thinks that removing them is possible but they may come back worse. I am very worried and I don’t think that he should do it if it is not necessary. Has anyone had pinguecula removed?

I had a pinguecula removed from my eye, nasal side. It was constantly inflamed, bright red, scratchy. I could no longer wear contacts, so I had it removed. There is some light pink scar tissue in the area, but that is all. I'm hoping this will go away too. Anyway I look much better now. I would only recommend surgery if his pinguecula is almost always inflamed Otherwise, his scar tissue may not look that much better than what he had in the first place.

I had both a ptyregium (on the nasal) and pingcuela (on the temporal) removed from my left eye Feb. 15, 2007. It's and outpatient surgical procedure done under "twilight" sleep (meaning, you're completely numb but still conscious). I had the sutureless, amniotic membrane procedure (using a fibrin glue) and overall it was moderately painless. I was prescribed codeine and numbing drops for the pain which is quite manageable with the medication.

I went in for a post-op the next day and the doctor told me it would take approximately 5-8 wks to heal completely. I put antiobotic drops 3 times a day to ward off infection. I'm a little over a week into the recovery process and it's going better than I thought it would. The first 3-4 days my eye looked pretty bad (lots of bruising around the eye and redness on both the nasal and temporal side). Now, the temporal side looks great and is healing nicely. The nasal side is still very red with white patches showing through, but overall, looking much better than before. I wear sunglasses (and tinted reading glasses) wherever I go since it's still healing.

I'm due for another post-op this Friday -- I'll do an update if anyone is interested.

Hello!

I am new here. I have pings in both eyes and was wondering if you guys have veins that seem to feed into them (at 3 and 9 o'clock). My eyes are always bloodshot and I am currently being treated for dry eye but I think the pings might be the real cause.

Any thoughts? My doc refuses to remove them.

Bella,

I am so glad to hear that your surgery went well. I have pings in both eyes, but my problem is I have veins leading to the pings which make my eyes look very red all the time. Did you have any of this redness prior to your surgery? If so, does it look like the redness is diminishing?

I am eager to hear your comments.

Take care.

Surgery or eye drops or natural treatement:

The below are some of my ideas after going thru. different sites and keeping in mind a steady solution which last for longer time without much side effects :

Surgery : Go for it If pinguecula cause vision issue or something [cosmetics] you feel really needs to be done. Also consult the doctor for its side-effects or cause after surgery

Eye drops : I heard this artificial tear drops helps to prevent irritation but it will not cure the pinguecula , can we be in drops for ever ?

Natural treatment : Start going for eye formula vitamins ->
example [Pls. consult the RDA(Regular dosage limit) for the below]
1) get sufficient omega-3 fatty acids : are valuable for keeping eyes properly lubricated [From my doctor suggestion]
omega-3 fatty acids are potent anti-inflammatory compounds, protecting against many forms of irritation.

2) lutein [dark green vegetables, such as kale and collard greens] & zeaxantin, the nutrient that contains the carotenoid believed to filter out UV blue rays and provide antioxidant protection to the center of the macula

I have pinguecula [3 rd week early stage] and i am decide to go for the natural cure as said above.
Pls. think one or two times and decide which is best for you.

I will post If i get good results in near future.

All the best . Takecare Agassis [_[removed]_]

Agassis,
How are your eyes doing now? Are the vitamins any good, are don’t they make any difference??
I have pingueculae in both eyes (for about a year now). I hate them! I’m having artificial tears and I'm trying vitamins right now also. I’m scared of having the growths removed (here in Holland, no doctor wants to remove them anyway), but the spots are kind of ‘ruining’ my life. It’s a bad problem!

Kind regards,
Evelijn

After spending a lot of money on eye drops and going to many doctors which obviously did not know much, I cured myself by STOP using visine since I used it quite frequenly. I now Use daily WheatGrass and Must importantly blinking a lot since this is the only way to maintain eyes wet naturally. I wash my eyes about 6- 10 times a day. and whenever i start feeling my eyes dry I blink. Blink, blink is the cure and Daily praying in the morning and at night.

This is how i have managed to cured myself from pinguecula in both of my eyes.
