No one needs to have the pinguecula removed. I have one and although it occasionally gets inflamed...i'm ok.

I had pinguecula on both eyes, and had surgery to remove them from one eye. The result was terrible permanent damage - iris atrophy (part of my iris is thinned and does not constrict properly, leaving my pupil in an odd large shape), and some peripheral vision loss. I went to a well respected surgeon and still had bad results. The surgery is very serious, and in my opinion (in hindsight), should be reserved for pterygium removal.

I have recently been diagnosed with pinguecula In my left eye. It has veins leading to it and has been bright red. I've never been the type to be out In the sun without glasses so I couldn't understand how this happened. Anyhow, I started to think back to the last few months and have created a plan to treat it and so far it has gotten better, today you can barely see it! I started wearing contacts for the first time in my life last September. I live in dry Colorado so my eyes were constantly dry when I wore contacts. I started to feel as if something was always getting stuck in them, especially the left eye so I stopped wearing them. After not wearing contacts for a month, I woke up one morning with a bright red eye. I thought it was a burst blood vessel, but when it didn't go away after 3 weeks, I saw an eye doctor. I was diagnosed with pinguecula. He didn't tell me much and prescribed an anti inflammatory drop and told me to come back if it didn't get better. It wasn't getting better so I began to do research and what I found was heartbreaking... It could only go away with surgery, but that isn't even guaranteed. I went into a deep depression. One night I started googling things and decided to try to cure it or at least make it less visible... And it's working! The first most noticeable thing I did was add humidity to my home. Since I think it was caused my dry weather, I realized my old home had so much humidity as the dryer did not vent to the outside. I moved in late August. In my old home, I had condensation on my Windows in winter due to all the moisture! I moved to a place where my daughter started to get nosebleeds at night, especially on cold nights. I also had some remodeling done so I thought the drywall dust may have also played a role as well as the dust from moving and cleaning etc. I decided to buy a good expensive humidifier and see if it worked. I plugged it in to my bedroom and turned it on at night. The first night I added humidity, my eye was so much better the next day! I purchased a humidity level detector and keep the humidity around 40-45. I then started using genteal gel drops in addition to systane liquid drops during the day. I started to take fish oil and a vitamin called eye bright twice daily. I've been taking the vitamins for a week and started the drops about a week and a half ago as well as the humidity. I woke up today and I can't even see the nasty red!!! If you look very closely it's a tad yellowish but you can barely see it. I want to share my experience to hope it can help someone else. I plan to install an entire house humidifier soon and feel this may really help.
Hi. I just wanted to check in on how your pinguecula was doing today? I was diagnosed about a week ago and redness has gone down a lot just with artificial tears but I've actually started the same regimen as you with eyebright and omega vision supplements, I was wondering if your veins started to become less noticeable as well?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you for your post. Please could you tell me what you use to wash out your eyes
Patient-reported results of a novel treatment for pterygium and pinguecula, a common incurable eye condition have recently been reported. The treatment utilizes the well-known cardiovascular drug dipyridamole in eye drop form. Dipyridamole has been in clinical use for 55 years, and is now being repurposed for treating intractable eye conditions such as pterygium, pinguecula and severe dry eye.
did you hear about dipyridamol eye drops? Or Piguecula eye drops? Can anyone advise about them? It's something new...
Hi, I have had this for 8 years or so now! I read about the dipyridamole just recently and how it can help.
It doesn't appear to be available in the U.K., but I will ask my doctor, I will pay for it as feel so self conscious, I have it both sides of iris in each eye.
Has anyone tried the dipyridamole eye drops?
