Sadie,
Just heard back from her and it was actually 11 years! Her story gives me such hope!!
Margie
I've dealt with this for almost 2 years, my heart and respect goes to all of you who have endured so much more!
Sadie
I made it through surgery and am SO glad it is behind me (no pun intended). I was really, really nervous because it was the first surgery I ve ever had but once they gave me the night-night shot I don t remember a thing so that was great. I tolerated surgery very well. I have nearly a 3 inch incision but it looks far worse than it feels. I m very sore (incision), walking is slow and sitting is no picnic but I really feel pretty good. Much better than I thought I would. Surgery took around 2 hours as I had only one side done which I m grateful for. Not sure how you guys with both sides are doing it! Going to the bathroom is a challenge but I can lean to one side so as I said, how are you guys doing it??!! By the way David, I m having the same problem you had so I m going to power down a couple of prunes tonight.
One thing I ve noticed over the past 2 days is that my two middle toes no longer hurt. I was having nerve pain to those toes so I m taking this as a very good sign. I haven t really had a chance to test the nerve pain down the back of my leg as I haven t walked very far yet but it seems to also be better.
I m taking hydrocodone, Aleve and the antibiotics. Hydrocodone sort of acts opposite on me, instead of making me drowsy, it kind of hops me up so I m not really sleeping very well right now. I d rather have pain relief now and I figure I will sleep when I need to. Eventually I will pass out I m sure!
Dr. Filler told my friends (who were at the hospital) that he saw what he expected once he got in there and feels very confident that he was able to fix the problem. This gives me great hope. I haven t talked to him yet. Sheila came in the next day and said everything went well. I need to follow up with them to get more details as I was pretty foggy when she came in.
Not sure what else to report but I just wanted to say thank you all again for your support and prayers. It means a lot to me. I ll update along the way and of course want to hear about all of you.
Long post, sorry. Take care and if any questions, feel free to ask.
Leesa
So glad to hear from you again and hear that everything went well. Prayers will continue until we hear you're running a marathon and then you're on your own!!
Take care,
Margie
So glad to hear all went well. Sending healing thoughts your way to make that marathon!
Sadie
NO marathons in my future! Maybe a 5 or 10K :)
Still no nerve pain to the toes, good news. Haven't been up much yet today but NO nerve pain in the leg today, also good news. Incision feels a little more sore today that's probably normal? Wondering when I should try to walk farther. I live on the second floor so I'd have to go up and down the stairs which is probably not a good idea just yet.
Hope everyone has a good day. Hope you feel good today David and I'll send positive thoughts for you Dr. Huggable and everyone else of course!
Leesa
Hi Elliot,
I have the same problem over 3 years now. I would like to ask a few questions.
Thank you very much,
Eszter

Thanks, Sadie
I just submitted something and forsome reason it didn't go through so I will start over but can't sit much longer.
Leesa, so good to hear from you. What exactly did Dr. Filler find since it seems to be more complicated than just the piriformis with some people, except for Donna.
I have booked for the . 20 and another friend has agreed to go with me. Did most of you stay near the Nerve Institute? I am still uncomfortable about driving on the L.A. freeway to get to the Neurography Institute. Is that what you have todo to get Pasadena?
Did anyone pay personally and if so was the Cedars Sinai fee closer to the estimated amounted amount of $50,000. As you know I am coming from Canada and have been turned down for out of country coverage.
Dr. Huggable, did your spondylolisthesis come up at all with Dr. Filler? My burning foot pain goes away after I have had a botox injection so I am hoping that it is more related tothe piriformis problem or something other than the spine problem. Sadie, my main pain is in the buttock right where the piriformis is as well as each attachment at the sacrum and greater trochanter--lots of pain at those attachments, and stabbing, burning pain in the area surrounding glut max and piriformis--also burning pain in the leg, mainly in the shin and foot/toes. Botox helps some but not completely.
Margie, I have had this problem for 9-10 years. I had a very hard fall coming down my steps that made me see stars. I couldn't walk for about 10 minutes and was badly bruised. The pain came on shortly after that after a day of tennis, gardening and working out. It took me about 6 years to find a doctor who treated it and that is when I started the botox injections.
Leesa, will be thinking about you and hoping for a smooth recovery. Keep us informed. Dr. Huggable, am hoping for better news from you.
Have been sitting for too long. Bye for now.
Shirley
Leesa, Thanks for getting on the board so quickly after your surgery. It is exciting that your leg is not hurting. Don't do too much, give your body time to heal.
Dr. H. Thanks for your words. I was obviously not feeling up to par, this is an awful fight, and I am just the bystander. Thanks again. I hope you all have a great weekend.
I just got home from work, so I have to make some dinner. My husband flew to Costa Rica today, he's the real cook. The kids are in for a real treat from me.:-)
Glad you have a date and a friend to come along. The best way to get to Pasadena is by freeway. There may be a lot of traffic or not, you just never know. I'd just alllow enough time so you don't stress out.
I haven't gotten details of what Dr. Filler found or did yet. By the sound of it, I may not get details until I have my follow-up appt with him in about a month. Once I find out I'll let you know.
All:
I have been experiencing some nerve pain as the day's gone on in the back of my leg. Same spot as before the surgery but less intense. I won't worry yet since I just had surgery Tuesday. Still no toe pain. Pretty tired and bouts of nausea today. I'm sure it's all normal.
Have a good night everybody
How are you doing? Do you have help right now or are you able to do pretty much on your own? Hope the nerve pain is letting up. In going through all the people who had surgery on this forum it seems most got some nerve pain post surgery for a period of time. I went back to Rob's entries and a couple of others.
Take care, get lots of sleep and keep up your positive attitude.
Shirley
I did have the MR Neurography and it showed signs consistent with PS, bright area next to the sciatic nerve which I understand to mean it showed irritation in a specific area. Then I had one injection that gave very minor relief after 14 days. My butt hurt worse at first then settled down. I can't remember how long it was between the injection and surgery but I want to say around a month and a half or so, maybe 2.
Woke up this morning around 4:30 with pretty bad pain in my butt and leg and feel off and on faint. I had a lot of visitors yesterday so maybe I just overdid it. My mom is here helping me. I can walk by myself, shower by myself and really do quite a bit by myself. Today started putting my own clothes on! It's slow-going and I would say it's necessary to have someone with you at least for the first week. I wouldn't go shopping for myself or even drive right now. My mom is planning on staying for 2 weeks but I don't really think I'll need help that long. We'll see.
Hope your plans are firming up. Keep me posted.
I plan on taking it very easy today. Just waiting for the Super Bowl to start!
Leesa
Thank you for your pain descriptions....it sure seems that we are all dealing with the same monster....ugh! I also have a Tarlov cyst at S2 and was curious if the tailbone burning could be being brought on by it. Just needing to try to sort it out.
Leesa, wishing you a comfortable day today!
Julie, I know it takes forever, but have you heard anything regarding your referral?
rj, how are you doing?
Take care all, Sadie
Welcome back. Sounds like things went pretty well and that's great. Yes, do watch that you don't overdo it, especially early. Keep in tough with us and let us know how it's going. Yes, having both sides done wasn't a picnic but I'm still glad I elected to do it that way instead of one per time.
Week 9 tomorrow. Really, really pushed it this weekend and besides being sore, did pretty well. We had some warm(not cold) weather and that helped. We got a new golden retriever puppy and the bending, getting down on the floor, psuedo running, standing up from the floor, etc. kind of stretched some things out. I tolerated it pretty well. Still having the majority of problems with the left leg but I'm being patient. It's still improving but certainly not 100%.
Sincerely hope everyone else is also doing well.
David
