hey Jibba, I know you posted this like a year ago now, but I just had ACL surgery and am now about 3 and a half months out. About a month to a month and a half ago I started having this same issue. It's like something right under/right at the bottom of my knee cap will tighten up and lock my leg and i have to slowly let it relax before i can bend it. Did yours ever get better? I'm looking everywhere for answers and my doc and rehab person say they have both never seen this.

HEy guys this link provides the answer! It's nothing too much, it's the knee cap making a few clicks, give it a read.

The lump is probably the screw that is placed in your Tibia, I have the same thing in my R knee post ACL reconstruction. When I told the MD about it he said that if I have pain they can take it out, if not then I can leave it as is. As for the sounds that you are having, I am still trying to figure out the sound in my knee. They almost always say it is scar tissue tearing that is making the sound. However I had ACL reconstruction in both knees with the same MD and never had any sounds in my left knee post surgery nor did I have the screw sticking out to be felt. I think that clearly some thing did not go well in the R knee so I will be getting a second openion. I recommend the same for you because the MD that did your operation will NEVER and I mean NEVER take any responsibility for himself. That could possibly mean legal action.

Hello,

My Name is Prashant. I had ACL Reconstruction on my left knee in June 2012. From past few months my Knee is paining a lot. Especially when I sit for longer time and try to get up suddenly that time It hurts a lot and unbearable.

Also I get some popping sound when I try to extend leg straight. While seating down & getting up also gives lots of movement and sound! I have met one of the Dr. and he said me to redo MRI to know whats wrong with ACL graft!

Worried!!! I don't want to go under same ACL surgery one more time! Its painful!

If anyone has come across same situation please share your experience and some guidelines!

Thanks for reading!

I had acl reconstruction im 2010. Now I have a large hard not bigger than a golf ball around my scar. It hurts severely without touching it. It started off mild about a year ago but has gotten way worse and is starting to get unbearable.

Had the same issue before and found out that my rehab didn't work really well.

Took my hamstring graft 10 years ago for my ACL reconstruction.

Went back to specialist and mentioned my ACL is strong enough.

Then I decided to have a proper rehab and acupunture session.

Proper rehab doesn't mean you have to do a lot of workout to build the muscle.

Back from basic again, I decided to pull information and found the best guideline from Orthopedic Surgeon in Melbourne.

Squat exercise leaning on wall and straight knee exercise (put towel underneath your ankle) are the main exercise for me to get back my knee to normal again.

Within two months result, I feel my knee feel like normal knee again and I gradually jump to exercise bike and build my muscle again.

I can play sport with confidence again.

Hope this helps for everyone who strugle with ACL post surgery.

 NOTE:

If you can afford acupunture, go for it and you will feel the sensation to release the scar tissue.

Y'all it's just scar tissue! Same popping/cracking happened to me after knee surgery on my meniscus for about a year then it went away! Just takes time for everything to heal up. The lump near the scar is also just the scar tissue... No biggie!

For some it may just be scar tissue, but in my case I was still worried so I asked my doctor. The lump ended up being the staple in my knee used during surgery. NO BIGGIE it is typical for almost all patients and doesnt hurt and is not necessary to remove. As for the cracking that is just scar tissue and your knee getting used to normal activity again. ALL IS GOOD.

Although, I would stay off the court for a while. Lateral movement and cutting are a path to a retear.

I had ACL reconstruction surgery about a little over a month ago,(hamstring graft) and I went to therapy yesterday morning and they had me do a lot of balancing things and leg lifts with 2 lb. weights on my leg. I thought my knee felt good after therapy but a couple hours later it was starting to feel really sore (which i wasn’t really concerned about). But later that night I went to the basketball game and I turned to open the locker room door and felt this sharp pain on the back of my knee. During the process it didn’t pop but after when I was walking it was clicking for about a minute and then it stopped. Also when I would stand up and down from sitting in a chair it just felt kind of stiff but it was tolerable. This morning it’s hit and miss while I’m walking when the pain occurs in the back of my knee. I was wondering if I did something bad to my knee or if I’m just worrying about it too much.Thank you so much!

I had reconstructive knee surgery almost 6 years ago, repairing of my meniscus and CAL in the left knee. But for a few months now I've been experiencing what you all have described, a half dollar sized lump or knot as I call it right where my scar is on the inside of my knee there is also some bruising that I've noticed, and swelling and extreme pain around the scars especially where the bruising is. But honestly I'm scared. They should warn people of this because this is truly uncomfortable.

Hi, I have recently had an ACL surgery about 5 months ago. And I have been noticing a clicking sensation, and sometimes it hurts. however I have had a word with my Pyhsio, and they said that clicking anywhere in the knee is natural. It should go away after the 6-9 months have complete. Now I also had a word with him about severe pains on the ACL. He also said that its okay. He advised me to buy something called Bio-Oil. So I did. Ever since I started using it, the pain has drifted.

You just have to be patient. The more you work at it and do exercise, the more your knee will "loosen up." I had my surgery over a year ago, and my knee still makes those sounds. It takes time and effort. But don't let it stray you away from doing exercise. It's a relatively normal thing after the ACL surgery
