In July (2013) while sitting in my driver’s seat I reached into the rear floorboard, twisting and leaning over the seat bolster. I felt a sharp, burning pain mid back (base of Latissimus Dorsi). I am a very active athletic person and have had many strains but I never had felt something so focused and specific. It felt like someone standing behind me put a knife just above my kidney that was on fire and twsited it just for fun. Brutal pain.
The pain subsided after 20 mins. The next day, it came back with a venegence and I was unable to get out of bed for an entire day. Then I noticed two lumps, one large one at the direct spot of pain and a smaller one about 4 inches further down, both on my left side.
My GP sent me to a massage person (Yes he did). I got a massage. The person conducted the massage said the lump wasn't muscle, but was likely a tumor or fatty tissue. So, I went to see ortho.
Ortho ordered an MRI. The 2 lumps were not marked nor was contrast used. The Ortho was unable to view any mass on the MRI, but saw a very small small deposit that he said COULD have been one of the lumps. The ortho recommended I see a surgeon.
These lumps are still very painful and have become a burden on my ability to live a normal life. I can barely play with my 2 year-old son. They ‘burn’ and towards the end of the day become most inflamed. When I wake up they are not as painful. If I lift using just my left arm (think lifting a baby’s feet to change a diaper), the fire-like pain (kind of a stretching nerve pain) comes rushing to the area.
I have an appointment scheduled to see a general surgeon, but that isn’t until next week. There is also no telling what the outcome of that meeting will be.
I"m here to see if anyone has ever had similar issues? I’ve read that certain post-traumatic soft tissue lumps can be everything from hidden sarcomas, intramuscular hematomas, fascia hernias and a world of other things. My spine and overall back pain is good, but the direct inflammation and stretching/burning like pain from these two lumps are excruciating. Should I ask for a CT scan or maybe even a sonogram?
I’m not taking any pain medication aside from IB as I’m very anti-narcotic. I’ve also never had surgery, but do have a family history of cancer.
Just thought I would pick everyone's brain here to see what if any situations others may have had that relate to mine.
