I had mine removed less than 2 days ago. I know this sounds crazy, but although my stomach is making a lot of noises, I feel as though I need to pass gas, but I can not. I do have the right flank and shoulder pain, and no I dont think there is much you can do. It will get better, it is from the gas used to hold you open. I have had laproscopic surgey before and it was the same way. Please tell me if any of you had this same problem with passing gas?

I had the laproscopic cholesystectomy almost two months ago. Had the shoulder pain, which migrated up the neck and down to the elbow, for almost three weeks. That was controlled using Vicodin (codeine/acetominophen 5/500), which pretty much let me get back to work (tried to not take it during the workday as it made it a little difficult to concentrate). However, I, too, am now having the "phantom gallbladder pain" radiating around to the back, at ribcage level. It isn't stones, because I didn't have them to start with, just an infected gallbladder. The vicodin worked OK for the last couple weeks, but slowly became too weak. I decided to try 600 mg ibuprofen for several days (3x/day), and again, this worked OK for a week. However, I don't want to take high doses of Ibuprofen longterm, as I had a bleeding problem before. I'm about out of vicodin, but I'm wondering: has anyone else had this trouble, and does percocet work better or longer (or do you have another medicine you got prescribed?) I took BOTH Ibuprofen (2x) and Vicodin (2x) yesterday in order to control it, and the trend upward on this stuff is generally NOT the direction I want to go.

I just got out of surgery 6 days ago. I got my gall bladder removed through my belly button, i'm not sure what it's called, considering i'm only 17, just turned.. and yeah. 3 days after my surgery i decided i wanted to eat the foods i could eat before i got gall stones, like candy gummies, hash browns.. bacon.. kraft dinner.. etc, and went on a huge munching binge.. later that night i woke it felt like i couldn't breathe, i was puking none stop.. and the pain in my chest, in the spot under my breast but right in the center (solar plex or something like that..) it felt like there was a dagger twisting and turning.. i went to the hospital, stayed all night until the next morning, they put me on gravol and gave me pink lady ( a stomach numbing liquid they creat at the hospital with like pepto and numbing gel ) and that finally after like an hour made me feel better.. i was wondering why (if you guys can eat a regular diet) why can't i?? i hate it cause it hurts so bad.. and am wondering if it'll go away?
and i was wondering how long after surgery am i allowed to take the bandages off? ( not the gauze strip that keeps the stitches on ) but the actual bandaid?? thank you!

I had mine out 10 days ago. Pain in the shoulder is sometimes caused by the gas that they use to inflate the belly during laproscopic surgery.

Elimination problems (too little or too much, both within the realm of normal I'm told) should resolve itself I'm told by my surgeon; I'm still waiting. Sometimes a certain food will be more difficult for the body to get used to than others.

Here is a page with general info from the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopics Surgeons with what to expect. However, I think the recovery times quoted here are unrealistic according to what my surgeon has said and what I am experiencing.

Finally, if you have any questions, call your surgeon's office; after all that is what you and your insurance company pays them for!

I had my gallbladder removed about 2 days ago, and everything went fine, the pain is manageable, but I haven't been able to have a bowel movement yet. I'm gassy, and I don't feel like I need to go, but I'm starting to get a little worried. I am especially worried because I'm afraid to strain my abdominal muscles too much

I had laproscopic gb surgery 3 days ago.  i feel awesome!  very little pain.  had some post surgery shoulder pain the 1st day, but now it's all gone.  I'm returning to work on monday, can't wait to get out of this house.  very thankful that i am a super quick healer, and have an unusual tolerance for pain (i rarely ever experience pain, don't know if it's because i do endurance sports, ie, ironman triathlons, etc), but in this case, i'm very glad i haven't experienced the pain that others do...  chin up, it'll be over soon!

I had a robotic assisted cholecystectomy yesterday.  I had no idea that I would experience that much pain.  My abdomen is swollen like I am pregnant.  My pain yesterday was over my gallbladder area and felt like burning.  I assume this pain was from the cuatery utilized.  Today I am swollen even more but the pain is now more lower abdominal.  I have been researching the benefits of the Da Vinci robot and can't find any that give better patient outcomes.  If anything, I think there may be more pain...  I am a ACNP and I will be sure to teach my patients more about what to expect post operatively.  I have only had a few diet cokes (which I am avoiding because of the carbonation) and frosties.  The frosty have been filling and I take my medication with them.  I am home on reglan, Lortab, and Flagyl.  I have a history of diverticular disease so the surgeon did an exploratory lap while he was removing the gallbladder.  Tonite I ate some potatoe soup.  I just want the swelling to go down, I have been walking inside as much as I can.

I had my gallbladder removed over six weeks ago. The operation seemed to go well and I was in and out of hospital on the same day. After a week I noticed what felt like the original pain before the operation had returned. The pain has been terrible most days and mild on others. I'm due to have some scans this week and I want some answers. I feel worried and tired by the whole thing. My Gp seems uninterested and makes me feel like I'm exaggerating. Malcolm

Hi my is sally Purcell
I am going under the knife for gallbladder surgery and I am sh*t scared I will not come out of it alive and see my son grow up. Or I die from blood clot to the lungs or really bad bleed after wards. I hate when they tell you this because it makes you not want operation done.

I know this post is old but, I'm wondering if you changed your diet, I just had the same thing you had done 3 weeks ago and I had to change my diet if I eat spicy foods I get bad pains.

Gas pills work wonders for that shoulder pain. Had mine done Wednesday and yesterday was rough, but once I located my gas pills, it's 1000 times better.

If you had a day surg procedure, a warm compress and walking should help alleviate the pain and discomfort in time. I had that similar issue a few days post op.

Five days after surgery (lap procedure for a gallbladder) I am experiencing severe pain, and I am concerned. Is there a special diet that I should be following? My doctor is not the most patient or informative doctor I have had.
