hi all! I am 21 years old, and now 8 days post op... It still hurts really bad, but this whole thing has been like a rollercoaster... Right after the operation i felt pretty good. sore... but good. We thought i was going to have a speedy recovery... but then the anesthesia made me nauseated... as did everything I put in my mouth for three days after. I couldn't do anything except sleep and drink for three days. i lost 8lbs. But then after the original anti-nausea meds didn't work, my Dr. perscribed something that did, and I was able to take my meds and function a little. Then I started eating... real soft things like eggs, mashed potatoes, and soup. Then on saturday I felt great. I went out to eat with my mother (took me an hour to get through a tiny portion of a burger) and then my boyfriend came over and took me out for ice cream (which felt fabulous). But then Sunday was awful. I was feverish, and the pain was unbearable. For the last 6 days i've been drinking over a gallon of water a day... which used to feel very good... but today even drinking irriates my throat. The biggest problem is that my percocet's aren't really helping. I"m supposed to take 1 every 4 hours... well 1 subsides the pain for about an hour and a half. And then i want to shoot myself again.... I'm afraid I'm going to run out of meds before the pain stops.
I'm really hoping that there's a light at the end of the tunnel.... I took another week off from work and am postponing moving into my new apt so that I can relax. I'm hoping the scabs come off soon... i've heard its really downhill after that.

I am a 21-year old Female, and had a tonsillectomy on June 12th. I looked at the calender and thought it had only been 1 day lol, but it's been 2-days now. I had the surgery at 1:30 pm, don't even remember the anestologist come in and give me the anestesia.
Funny thing, (kind-of), the doctor that did my surgery, actualy showed my mom how "Huge" my tonsils were, he kept telling her how huge they were.
And it it actually easier to breathe.
First 2 days have been okay, my mom is has been pretty strict about me taking the Codiene every 4 hours, because she doesnt want me to be in any pain.
I'm worried about day 5-6, because the nurses actually mentioned that those would be the worst of the days of recovery.
I Have been drinking nearly 12-bottles of water a day, along with a bunch of Mr. Freezies. I have tried Jell-O and Sherbert; but they sting, so I think i'll stay away from that. I'm really hungry; and want noodles and butter and mashed potatos, so I think I'll try some for supper after I take Anti-Biotics and some Codiene.
The only thing that irks me, is the fact that I feel my insides grumble all day long, and bodily functions persist (burp, fart), they make me feel better :X.
I do agree with everyone that the mornings are horrid, and I gag when I intially wake-up. So I've been sleeping no more than 3-4 a night, and a a couple half-hours during the day.
I spit up mucus a lot, because it's extremely difficult to swallow. But Water, I drink about 2 bottles and have to use the bathroom.
Since last November, I've had Mononucleosis, and several other viral and bacterial infections. I was hospitalized once, but thought I got over it. So during my Finals week at College, I went in to see the doctor, and found out that I had went from 297 lbs., to 275 lbs.
Before surgery I was 271 lbs.
I've been wanting to lose weight lol, and I suppose, As long as I'm getting healthy and better. I just hope I get better before November. Otherwise that would be a full-year of being sick and in pain.
Now I feel like babblering, but I really don't have anything else to do but watch movies on tv.

So the last post was mine as well..
Now 6 days after surgery..
Last night I was feeling horrible cramps, and then had diarhea, and blood in it. I was freaked out. But my mom told me to wait out the night.
So today at about noon, she called the doctor, and told him my symptons. So it's some horrible reaction to the anti-biotic, that makes me have weakness in the knees, light-headedness, diarhea, and abdominal pain (intense, on a scale of1-10; 8.5)
>_< I just have to keep drinking water; absolutely no food. And just Wait... But it hurts sooo bad.

I had a tonsillectomy & Septoplasty surgery done 6 weeks ago. I thought I could tough it out and WOW did this knock me on my butt. The first few days were fine. Starting at day 7 through 16 were the ABSOLUTE worst. I was on tylenol, then 2 hours later oxycodine, then 2 hours later ibprofein. This did nothing to relieve the pain and I could not eat anything. I tried eating baby food, apple sauce, jello .... and everything just hurt so bad. I was able to eat a fried egg before anything else (sunny side up) and it just sort of slid down my throat. I could not eat anything besides very very soft foods for almost 3 full weeks. I had ear pain and actually still do due to nerves being aggrivated. My throat is pretty much healed at this point. If i eat jalapeno it still burns a little bit, so it's still a tiny bit raw and I'm 6 weeks out. I was out of work for 6 full weeks before I was really ready to go back.

I am 34 Im on day 7 still in pain.I can only drink apple juice and eat soup. Which still hursts to swallow. I have an excess amount of mucus that keeps me running to the bathroom. My ear pain feels like they will implode soon. Jello and apple sauce won't stay down. I'm almost out of liquid pain meds. Good luck to everyone as we drudge through hell.

My dad says the same thing. I’m 18 and my god all these reviews are true. It hurts like hell. I borderline would’ve rather gone without the surgery than gone through this. I’m on day 7 and I’m a big boy. 6’1” 250 lbs and played football for 13 years. But I’ve never felt pain like this. As much as I want to eat I can’t and that’s depressing. I’m so sick of water and Gatorade it’s not even funny. My doctors gave me hydrocodon which helps but also knocks me out and if I sleep past that pain curve. It’s hell. The earaches didn’t start for me until day 5 but that’s been the worst pain I’ve ever encountered.

Im on day 6 & I am begging for mercy. This surgery is no joke. I am at my pain threshold, I don't know how much more I can stand.

Yes, the frequent burping the first few days after surgery seems quite common...It happened with me, but not so much by day 5.

Ok. So this is the start of day 7 for me, 6am at present and ive just taken 60mg codeine and 2 paracetamol because my earache is bad. Im 47 yrs old. I stick to exactly the same procedure as in the above reply except that my doctor won't prescribe tramadol. Im on codiene. Been on this schedule since day 3 or 4. It does space me out and lead to extreme tireness at times during the day which means i sleep for a couple of hours. I also get bouts of nausea. Not often but that doent help either !
The earache flares up suddenly especially if I try and eat anything too ambitious like pasta with sauce etc. Mostly eating soup and buttered toast at the moment. I might try chewing gum today though. Not done that yet. The ice thing doesnt seem to work for me.
