I have this issue right now. Had my tonsils out on June 15, so just about 3 weeks ago. I had a bleed on my right side 5 days after initial tonsillectomy, so ended up back into the OR. Now, almost everything is healed. Still some scabs, but not much. But there is skin or some thing hanging low on either side of my uvula, more so on my right. It kinda makes it difficult to sleep, I feel it most when I lay down. Went to the ENT for a follow up today. I asked about it and he said wasnt sure what it was, but that it would go away in a few months. He said everyone heals differently. But, I feel better knowing i'm not the only one. I still can't swallow anything that isn't pudding or broth. How had it turned out for you?

I just got a tonsillectomy today and I feel that if I lay down, because of how big my uvula is, I feel as if I am going to choke and I am not able to breathe correctly. I was also wondering if you had  healed completely now?

Hello, did you ever find a resolution? I too am having the same problem now and looking into options....doesn't seem to really be any viable ones. My soft palate and uvula are always on my tongue, really annoying. And it has caused other issues.

These posts make me feel better that I am not the only one.  My uvula swelled up huge and my solft palate hangs 1/2 way down after my tonsillectomy and it is now 5 weeks later.  Did anyone find a solution to this?

i had the same problem.the soft palate and the uvela were hanging on my tongue and made me gag all day. i was worried because it lasted longer then i expected.(more then six months)after three months i went back to the hospital to ask why it stayed this way and she assured me that it eventually will heal and indeed in the end it settled down and now i have no problems anymore. maybe because i am older (54) that it took so long.

I'm 25 female and I had my tonsils out about six weeks ago. I have the same feeling of choking and annoying sensation of feeling my uvula 24/7. I just left my check up today and the doctor said everything looks fine and assured me that my uvula wasn't long and that it will be back to feeling like nothing at all in a few months. So there you have it. This type of surgery takes a long time to heal. I have to go back when I reached my six months post op for another inspection.

Same here... I am almost one year post op. I even had my uvual mostly removed as well. I have a nub left. :/ I can actually feel the back part of my soft palate and the nub sitting on the back of my tounge all the time. Sadly, I never had any sleep issues before this and now my husband tells me I make a clicking sound if I sleep on my back. Its my airway area flapping open and closed. It is very concerning to me. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have read to start gargling to strengthen the soft palate back up. So, I am going to start doing that for 2 minutes twice a day with salt water.. praying this helps.. anyone else with this issue?

My daughter had an adult tonsillectomy about 3 months again and is now miserable with a huge uvula and some slurring. She is very unhappy, has tried steroids and antibiotics and nothing seems to help, she says it feels like a wad of cotton in the back of her throat. Does anyone know how long this lasts or is it permanent. No answers seem to be available.

I have the same problem. I had eagle's syndrome surgery and tonsillectomy 5-months ago with a partial uvulectomy and my soft palate is lower causing my taste buds on my tongue to touch the soft palate. It is frustrating and sometimes I get anxiety thinking about it when I swallow causing me to get a globus sensation in my throat. Does this happen to anyone? I hope this feeling goes away!!!

I also have this problem I'm on the 3 month mark of tonsilectomy and it has been a very drawn out slow healing process. Started out with severe sleep apnea one of the worse ent has seen so they removed my tonsils. I can now breath good in my throat but now my soft pallete is literally so far down the uvula cannot be seen even with my mouth all the way open. My throat healed at an angle and now I'm having more sleep apnea than before the surgery :/ the more I exercise the worse my throat swelling seems to get

Hi bumvee,

I see your post is over a year ago, how're you feeling now? Is your uvula/soft palate still touching your tongue? I have the same problem, and my uvula looks different. It flops around and looks very jelly. My Dr. was so arrogant and told me it's normal and it will stay this way, looked at his watch and waited to get rid of me asap (!!) It's been a month now and I'm so depressed about it. I'm 24 yo. It makes me wish I never did this surgery. Will my uvula be back to it's normal size? It's wider and shifting to the right side.
