Hi, I am 29 year old female, and I’m addicted to painkillers. I wasn’t so worried about this until yesterday, when I found out that I’m pregnant. I don’t want to have an abortion, but I don’t want to harm these baby neither. I am afraid if I stop using those pills, that withdrawal could cause a miscarriage or some defect to my baby. Please give me some advice!

Hi, I am very sorry that you’re experiencing this difficult situation. I can’t tell you what to do, because this decision is only yours. However, I will tell you some facts about being pregnant while addicted to painkillers. It is very dangerous, because it can cause defects to an unborn child. It is also true that chances of miscarriage are increased, especially in the first months if you’re addicted to painkillers. You should talk to your gynecologist about this and ask his/er for advice. If you decide to keep the baby, you have to do it with a strict supervision of your doctor and with his/er help about withdrawal. Don’t try to do this on your own, in case that you have complications. Good luck!

Hi thank you for the advise. I am also addicted to painkillers and is three months pregnant. This is my second child after 10 years. I wasn't addicted with my first pregnancy. I am so afraid that i might do something to my unborn i also thought about the defects if i try to get off the pills by myself but clearly its not going to work. I can see that the use of over the counter medicines is so easy to get these days and it's not making it easy.
