I think that you're supposed to take it after conception but I might have mixed that drug up with another. Can someone help me out with this one?

Hi, I know these posts were awhile ago, but I just wanted to say I appreciate all of your input. I had a miscarriage in April 2009 and just yesterday I discovered that I am pregnant again!! My Dr. put me on Clomid for this past month to help and now wants to put me on Prometrium vaginally. I was very concerned after reading several other websites. But with everyone's personal stories it has definitely put my mind at ease!

Thank you!

I was 5 weeks pregnant when my doc put me on Prometrium three a day to boost my progesterone HCG levels were perfect two days later I miscarried. I came to find out by searching the internet that Prometrium is bad for pregnant women. I was perfectly fine until I started taking this medication I will never again take anything while pregnant.

I have PCOS,and was just put on prometrium, just in case I am pregnant. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 4 years and the Dr. did an ultrasound 3 days ago and said that I did ovulate last week. He wants me to take prometrium 100mg once daily for 12 days, has anyone taken it before they knew if they were pg? I don't think that I could handle another disappointment.

I'm so confused with prometrium myself, my last two pregnancies I have been put on Prometrium 3 times a day vaginally at about 5 weeks pregnant, they both ended up in miscariages by the 7th week. Not so sure about it.

:crying: Hi I am 31 yrs. old and am one of the few people as I see that did not have a good experience with prometrium! On August 24th 2009 I had a miscarriage between 7&10 wks. So as a precaution when I later became pregnant in December my doctor put me on prometrium......That baby (my son) was doing fine first ultrsnd and @ my 20 wk. checkup we found out that his heart had stopped @ 18 wks...I took prometrium orally through my first trimester and we lost him on April 9th,2010......Devastated once again but also desperate to have another baby to complete our family... We let nature take its course in the hands of god!! If it was meant to be we will get pregnant again!! So we ended up pregnant again in October 2010. Again my doctor put me on 200 mg. prometrium once daily orally and yesterday @ 17wk. 3days on an ultrasound we have found out our baby will not survive the pregnacy....We have been to a specialist and there is nothing genetically or otherwise wrong with either my husband or myself! So with that I have only one assumption as to the answer to my many heartaches... Especially since we have two perfectly healthy living children @ home!!!! Is there anyone else who shares this negative opinion?? If so where can I find more info. on this??

I am 34 years old and tried for 6 years to have children after going through every test known to mankind I decided on IVF and it was at this time my Dr suggested trying progesterone for a few months to see if I just needed a little kick.  I was prescribed Prometrium and was pregnant two weeks later and continued on the pills tll I was 12 weeks pregnant my child was perfect.  Second child same thing...now I decided I want a third child and just got home from Dr with a new prescription for prometrium.  I remember when I first started taking progesterone everyone scared me half to death about MC and Cleff Lips but I know NOONE who has ever had any complications and highly recomend any women who has any fertility issues to try this.

hi i can agree with all the previous posters who say that they are really scared about taking prometrium. I am currently in the early stages of my first trimester, i don't wanna say exactly how far because i don't wanna jinx it. I have had two miscarriges exactly one year apart, and my doctor prescribed the medicine for me, and told to start taking it as soon as a got a postive pregnacny result, and i have been taking it since, 200mg 2x a day. I am also under the care of the infertility specialist, so I hope that everything goes according to the plan. I've been scaring myself though with all the prego do's and don'ts. Keep your head all you anxious mommies to be, we are all in this together.

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been on prometrium since about 7 weeks. They had found a blood clot in my uterus and thought I had almost miscarried cause I had had a little bleeding. I also was low on the pregnancy hormone. The baby has a strong heartbeat. After 2 weeks of being on it, they had an ultrasound specialist look at it and the blood clot was GONE. Not only that but she said had she not know one was there that she would say everything looked absolutely perfect. It did make me tired and sick feeling sometimes but not much more than pregnancy does anyways. I think it has saved the life of my child. I got the go ahead to stop taking it today at 16 weeks.

I figure, if it can save that little baby's life, then it is worth a try. Don't worry about side effect lists, have you checked out the side effects of tylenol lately?!

I am glad to see it does help. I just got a call from the doctor and they prescribed me to start the Prometrium at night before bed. They said my hCG levels doubled in 48 hrs which they like to see but my Progesterone level was at a 16 when they like to see it at a 20. I am a little nervous.

You all have to remember there are two different ways to take prometrium,

when trying to induce period you take orally,

when trying to maintain pregnancy you take vaginally.

two different ways, two different effects.. I think this adds confusion
