Hi, I'm 24 years old, and I have a problem with my aching testicles. There is intense pain and swelling especially on the left testicle. I have tried self examining and it seems that the back side of the testicle is a little bit harder and more sensitive to touch – it hurts like hell! I also have a watery discharge from my penis. The symptoms appeared after having anal sex with my girlfriend. What should I do, could it be some kind of sexually transmitted disease?

It is not uncommon that having unprotected anal sex can cause an infection of the urinal and reproductive organs in man. The pain that youre feeling is probably caused by either the infection of the prostate, orchitis – infection of the testicles, or epidydimitis – infection of the tube which connects the penis with the testicles. Epidydimitis is the most common of the three, while orchitis is very rare in the general population. You are probably infected by E. Coli, a bacteria which is usually present in human intestines and since you had unprotected anal sex with your partner there is a high possibility that you got infected by it. Other bacterial infections like gonorrhea can be the cause of epidydimitis. If untreated the infection of epidydimitis and testicles can cause sterility and urinary infections which can even lead to kidney disease. It is treated with different kinds of antibiotics and there should be no problems if treated in time. You should consult your physician for further treatment since the little information you gave me is not enough to make any kind of a diagnosis or to give you any kind of advice for treatment.
