I'm glad I found these posts because I have the same thing happen to me. I've wondered if I had a problem or if it is somewhat normal to have these pits in my tonsils and the white balls in them. It makes me happy that it's not just me. I've had them non-stop though for the past few years. They are very annoying. Besides the bad smell, they actually hurt and I can feel when they are back there. Sometimes I have chunks stuck between my tonsils and adenoids. Those are even more annoying.

I've gotten these tonsil stones more or less for years. I'm 17 years of age,
and it has been annoying me extremely. They used to come out maybe once every 2 months or so, but sometimes very often, and in some periods, not at all.

Anyway, eventually I started using the mirror and poking them out of my tonsils manually with different objects, and I've found useful and less useful instruments for removing them. I've also grown a custom to touching my tonsils without getting a gag-reflex.

I've been to a doctor with this problem once, but it didn't seem like he actually knew anything about this problem in particular, but he guessed that it was various foodparticles and sent med on my way.

Now I have these disgusting particles as often as I check, and I can't help but perform small 'operations' for removing them every time I see them. They disgust me, and cause bad breath. The holes have also become larger, and I'm starting to discover that the inside of the hole has started getting smaller holes. The hole tonsil just looks like an infected area, and I wanna just rip the whole thing out. If anyone knows how to permanently get rid of this problem, please reply.
Thanks.

I've had tonsil stones for years now and only discovered recently what they were. Neither my doctor not my dentist knew anything about them. Unfortunately, nothing seems to works-i've tried waterpiks, cotten swabs, gargling with mouthwash, saltwater, hydrogen-peroxide and water and nothing seems to relieve these little creatures from the back of my mouth. Eventually (after 3-5 days), they go away on their own. I guess all the chewing, swallowing and general activity in the throat will pop them out. But I have to live with the discomfort over these several days. Any other suggestions? Has anybody tried the TheraBreath system being advertised (by Dr. Harold Katz)?

I had tonsiliths for years. That's the technical term for the little white smelly balls that smell like dung. The direct translation is tonsil rock.

These are caused by a few things, but mainly it has to do with "pits" in your tonsils and in the back of the throat that catch food particles. Your saliva contains enzymes that help to break down food. What you smell is actually food digesting in your mouth. My solution was to go and have my tonsils removed, but this would be the last resort for most. As for ways to pop them out I was always successful with toothpicks and q-tips.

I've had this problem since I was young and I was always scared to ask what was wrong. I always thought this had something to do with my acid reflux and that I was snorting up vomit. Now I know what's the matter. Thank you!

It's good that this is not anything terrible. ...well, other than the annoying "lump in the throat" feeling that takes days to get rid of and the nasty smell of these things. XD

i get these all the time. however, they're very very small, not pea-sized.
they come from the tonsil crypts, and i often find that i can sort of... push them out, i guess, with my tongue. they're not a problem

I've had this problem for four years, and I went to an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist a couple years ago. He told me that putting hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip and rubbing it on my tonsils would help, and it totally does! At the beginning of this whole thing, I would actually see the dots on my tonsils and would just apply pressure with my fingernails (after cleaning them thoroughly, obviously), but now I don't see them. A lot of times, they'll just randomly come out. I'm glad to know I'm not alone! Hope this helps.

I use a crochet hook, you can buy them at any craft store, even Walmart. Just be really careful as if you get one too big or try too hard you can damage your throat. However, slight bleeding is normal, similar to bleeding gums if you don't brush your teeth for awhile. I wouldn't suggest anything bigger than a hook size "h." Personally, I use a hook size "f."

Good luck!

I am 51 I had my tonsils out when I was 12. I don't drink milk at all. I do eat cheese and bread. My blood type is O positive. I had these when I was younger and had my tonsils out. I recently quit smoking and they have come back. I gargle with water mixed with peroxide, they seem to be back in my sinus area. When I was younger they were in my tonsils like most folks have mentioned. The gargling seems to loosen them and help them come up. Glad to see I'm not alone I relate to everyone. Gives me something to pick at now that my pimples are gone. My wife says my breath doesn't smell so that's good.

I've had them my whole life, usually just small ones... but the last year or so my pockets have also gotten bigger and more noticeable, and I have them almost non-stop. They used to be just on the right side, now it's mostly the left, and just this last week I had HUGE masses in BOTH sides. The one on the left was buried deep, too, and it was pushing the skin out into a visible lump. No amount of pushing on it helped, and my tonsils and throat were sore. I finally got them both out by sort of making myself "snort" mucus from back there, and then sort of creating a vacuum pressure. Can't describe it, but it eventually sucked them out. They were nasty, but at least they didn't smell as bad as before.  I guess because they weren't in there as long.

Oil pulling may help. I get these things too and I hate them. ive been gettng them for 4 years now :/

Oil pulling supposedly helps to remove mucus and toxins fom your body so i was thinking the action of drawing the oil through your teeth and the suction might help to remove them. I havent tried it yet but im going to give it a go.

Its supposed to offer other health benefits as well and apparently whitens teeth.

might be worth a shot.
