I am 60 years old woman, and I have some health problems, such as gastrointestinal diseases. My daughter told me that in elderly humans there are marked alterations in body composition. Particularly the greatest problem is a loss of fat-free mass, most of which is skeletal muscle protein. She told me this loss results in a decrease in muscular strength, reduced social independence. That’s why I wanted to try with Pulse Diet, I have heard that is recommended in cases like mine is.

A loss of protein necessarily involves an imbalance between protein synthesis and protein degradation, which is big problem. There is controversy as about whether whole body protein synthesis and degradation, expressed per kg change with aging. Pulses are gluten free and also they offer a great variety for the individual on a gluten-free diet. They are high in fiber and the B vitamins thiamin and niacin. All which may be lacking in a gluten free diet. Pulse Diet flours such as whole bean flour are an alternative gluten free flour, and provide valuable protein and fibre to gluten free baked goods. The Protein Pulse Diet feeding pattern increased 24-h whole-body protein turnover. During these experiments, it is confirmed that this effect was analogous to results obtained with an increase in protein intake. However, elderly women seemed to be less responsive to an increase in protein intake. The present study showed that the higher stimulation of daily protein synthesis with the pulse diet accounted for most of the increase in daily nitrogen balance and suggests that this Pulse Diet feeding pattern can improve the protein anabolic effect of an increased protein intake in elderly women.
