Hello, I am a 41 yr old male. Due to prolonged trouble with urination ( slow flow, start/stop, etc ) I had a cysto scheduled which I did in the hospital yesterday, I specifically chose that route so that I would not experience the discomfort or have a memory of it. I am very sensitive to anything touching the tip, so much so that it is probably at a phobia-level ...
It turned out to be a cyst that is located right near where the urethra meets the bladder, so that was good news. But wait, it goes downhill quickly. After the procedure I peed nothing but blood, bright red drops, enough to make the toilet turn a reddish hue. I had read about the procedure and expected some blood, not sure if what I saw was normal or not. The nurse had me wait until I was able to go again and some urine came out, (mixed with blood) but it was very very slow, only drops at a time.
They let me go home and this continued for an hour or so. I called over to the doctor's office to describe this and they said that I should have somewhat normal flow so I had to come right over for *drumroll*.
While I was able to avoid being awake for the cysto, I was very awake for the 3 excruciating attempts to get the catheter in. I am not sure how I actually stayed conscious after the first 2 failed attempts. It wasn't just the unpleasant sensation but that combined with my phobia that caused me to go the anesthetized route to begin with...
So now I have this tube coming out of me, it is placed in a way that is putting constant pressure on the tip, so it is extremely uncomfortable. I will have this for the next 5 days.
My questions are:
1. Should I be worried about permanent damage caused to the urethra during the cysto?
2. Does 5 days seem like a normal amount of time, and should I expect things to get back to normal after?
3. Should I be concerned and/or possibly see someone else or just deal for the next 5 days?
I must say I am freaked by the experience, every step I take I feel the tube rubbing against the tip and it is unpleasant...
