Did this ever go away for you? If so, how long? I'm at 6 months and have both digestive problems and water retention.
Thank you!

I will add myself to the list of people glad they found this. I quit smoking almost 4 months ago and continue to have digestive problems. Been to the doctor for blood tests and a CT scan, all of which came back normal. Nothing seems to be working as a temporary fix so I guess it's just about riding out the storm.

I'm relieved to find others are having similar problems to mine and that it's not all in my head as some doctors would have you believing. I'm over a year off cigarettes now and 6 months off the e cigarette (I used this to quit). I can honestly say I've never been as sick in my life, silly as it may sound if if known how ill and depressed I would get I may not have given them up. I've had ct scans, colonoscopy, endoscopy, ultrasounds etc and nothing. My doctor is now saying ibs aka he doesn't know. I'm in my 30s and smoked since early teens, I've never had any digestive issues before this. Now I have constant foul wind (no matter what I eat), constipation, belching for hours every day and pain in lower back. I'm at my wits end with this, no social life and relationship suffering too and would appreciate any ideas suggestions as I obviously don't want to go back to smoking

I'm still going through this but I have found that Metagenix Glutagenix helps me more than anything. I put a teaspoon in water and drink it before any meal. My digestion isn't perfect but I'm not nearly as bloated as I was. I quit almost 7 months ago. I think it's the L-Glutamine that helps with digestion. You can google it and find much cheaper ones than Metagenix. Hope it helps you too!

Very interested to read your post, my story is on the previous page (Jules) - my symptoms are very similar to yours. I'm off for a colonoscopy this afternoon having googled daily and expecting all sorts of conditions. Your latest post has made me realize they probably won't find anything wrong and it is indeed down to stopping smoking! My next port of call is likely starting a gluten free diet to see if that makes any difference. It can be reassuring to know others are suffering but it doesn't help our problems. Maybe its time the medical industry looked into this 'condition'.

I too am suffering all of the above, for 7 months now. Can you advise if this ever stopped?

thank you for your reply. I haven't heard of this and will definitely try it. I often take apple cider vinegar and a spoon of baking soda in water to relieve the constant heartburn and indigestion. This gives some relief but not for very long. Do you mind me asking if you drink alcohol, I would have regularly drank previous to this but now I cannot handle so much as 3/4 and I would be violently sick. This is probably due to acid in my stomach..

hello, yes our stories are quiet similar. I sympathise with you. In my case, the colonoscopy and endoscopy only showed gastritis and constipation but I was aware of that before the scopes! The doctors then thought it may be gall bladder due to the hours an hours of belching I would do every day but an ultrasound showed that was ok. CT scan also clear. The doctor does not seem to be able to do anymore. In terms of diet, he did recommend the fodmaps which Ive tried but no change. For me it seems I fill up with gas and get indigestion very soon after eating to the point where I am now very reluctant to eat, especially large meals. I have just started acupuncture (not sure if this will help) but I am desperate for my old life so I will try anything!

I'm thinking long and hard about my diet following the colonoscopy! Had no food since 1pm yesterday due to the moviprep and since then no wind, bloating only during and after the hideous drink. So brought on by everything i eat it seems. I don't have the belching like you but I can't have a bowel movement at all without laxatives and have a constant bad stomach. I'm 44 and it has affected my work and home life for 18 months, close friends are family are sick of hearing about it, so its good to rant somewhere else :)

Oh I know all about that. You actually stop talking about it with family as you feel like such a moaner but when it is all that is going on in your life its hard not to rant at every opportunity. The clean prep prior to the colonoscopy is not the nicest experience but the scope itself is fine so don't worry about that part, the prep is worse. I am 33 and I have never had any issues with food/digestion before this that is what leads me to believe its the quitting smoking or Efag. I do think the effects of these efags will eventually come to light and while it definitely helped me quit I would not recommend them after all of this...I do agree about the wind being worse after eating, for me this is the worst part as it is so embarrassing!

I should've noted I created a member name as I am hoping someone will be able to help us on here and don't want the posts to become confusing!

I do not drink alcohol and I eat a low carb diet. I have food allergies (gluten and milk) but I don't touch those things anyway. I find the vegetables are the hardest to digest. The glutamine supposedly helps to heal your intestines so people don't need to take it forever. I just recently started it but I've found it has helped more than anything else I've tried. Choline also helps for constipation and I take that at night before bed. I have a naturopath who has been assisting me. Like I said before, I am in no way back to normal but better with taking these things. My abdomen isn't as bloated with gas as before. I noticed the difference in one day.

I also created a member name, we spoke yesterday. Had the colonoscopy and all clear as expected. Basically told by doc to eat more fibre, drink more water and given another laxative prescription then sent on my way. No answers...all friends and family asking how it went and me telling them I'm ok, when in fact I'm far from it! Very frustrating, have printed a copy of fodmap diet so I intend to give that a go. Looks very time consuming checking everything you eat for various ingredients etc...not sure I have the spare time to do this but no other option.
