I agree with many of you that say if people think that smoking marijuana helps them gain weight, they are definiteky wrong. Use you get the munchies and you eat but that food only covers the marijuana not your actual appetite. I stopped smoking for 3 months and i was very angry, had no appetite, depressed a little but then I gained my appetite back. July 2014 i was weighing 97 lbs because of a stomach virus, the begining of September 2014, i was weighing 122. Now i started back and i weigh 113lb. smh.

Lol okay I have to reply to this post because I see tons of people that on the internet that say you can't lose weight from smoking pot, everybody's body is different. I personally lost 20 lbs when I smoke but still got munchies like crazy and never had issues with my weight until I stopped smoking. But as soon as I quit smoking weed I gained my 20 lbs back so yes it is very possible..people need to quit acting like they know everything cause everyone's body is different.

So I was a consistent smoker for 3 years and was a good 115 lbs. I stopped smoking for one whole year and am now a 141 lbs. I also do judo but on my spare time, I ate away my extra time when I wasn't smoking. I'm convinced to go back to smoking to keep my mind off the food. The extra time I had not smoking only led me to eat. If you decide to stop smoking, try getting a hobby that will keep you for hours. Snack on healthy stuff. Everyone here thinks this isn't normal cause people usually munch when they are stoned but I feel you. I gained a ton of weight being off weed. Wish I didn't but I could've made better decisions when I stopped smoking.

You are exactly right, after you quit smoking pot your metabolism slows way down and you gain weight within like 6 months of quitting. It happened to me too....and I hate being fat now!

Thank God I found this discussion as I felt alone with my concerns. Been a heavy smoker for a long time . Started at 25 so I had gone through my growth period. In the past five years I increased to almost two grams a day. I have had one month breaks where I have had nausea weight loss heavy sweating etc and gone back to smoking. This time I went though this difficult stage but because I am older they were terrible and included major heart palpitations that were so bad I felt I was having a heart attack. It was comforting to read a Lund university report available on the web, that said withdrawals get worse as u age . I have no intention of growing through that again. I do weights and aerobic activity. Four times a week. That has not changed for four years and have had no issue with muscle development while on pot. I don't eat sugar and have a pristine diet. Averaging 1800 calories a day. That has been the story for five years as well. Struggled to not lose weight with pot smoking ( used very little tobbcco and never smoked tobacco). Was not surprised to read Time magazine article on fact regular pot smokers are generally thinner than non smokers and the connection with weight loss should be explored. There is a suggestion its to do with the CBD not thc . Found after the usual weight loss from sweating and loss of appetite from withdrawals I have put on weight. The only thing I can do now is to cut calories further and hope after about three months the body resets its metabolism. Noticed I never sleep . I suspect the raised cortisol levels from this has something to do with the weight gain or is part of it.

probably.
ive been smoking for 28 years. a few years ago i stopped for a couple months because i was stuck in a rut and wanted out. i was determined to quit and it was easy. i felt great. no desire to smoke, was working out and looking good. had a more normal appetite. then i got in a motorcycle wreck and started smoking again while bones were healing. im now back in the fog and looking skinny. i think its time to quit and thats what brought me to this thread.

I quit smoking Maryjane and I gained 30lbs. I use to smoke about 4-5 times a day, so instead of smoking I would snack and that's what lead to the weight gain. I was able to lose 125lbs. While smoking and now my weight is coming back...for this reason I want to smoke again but really don't want to and haven't.

I stopped smoking weed 3 months ago and have been steadily gaining weight. I smoked for about 20 years. I thought I would lose weight because I don't get the munchies. I am more active now I Dont eat at bedtime. I am still gaining weight.

I smoked for years as a casual smoker..I'm now 28...a few months ago I quit because oddly it started giving me anxiety & panic attacks. Since I've quit I've gained 20 lbs so your 1st statement is completely false. Your body becomes so used to something after so many years then you just quit it's bound to behave differently especially when you start to become older
