I know it sounds strange, but I smoked for many years and maintained my weight around 170-175 lbs. I quit smoking 8 months ago and I'm up to 215 lbs, my diet hasn't changed and I'm more active. Apparently stopping smoking can mess with your thyroid gland and make it under active once stopping smoking.

Im 24 years old, male, and ive been smoking daily since roughly 18. there have been periods where ive taken breaks for 3-6 months, and during these breaks i eat more, do more, dream while i sleep, gain weight (usually 10+ lbs in the first month), and generally experience most of what the rest of you are saying. My issue is i keep relapsing into this cycle, have been trying to gather the courage needed to go through sleepless nights and emotional spikes via withdrawal again. Wish me luck, same to all of you

my girlfriend and i stopped smoking about 2 weeks ago and ive lost 8 pounds. im a 27 year old man and this is not what i was expecting. i was 5'10 - 174 lbs. Now im same height obvs but dropped to 166 lbs. my theory is that thc is stored in the fat cells of your body and when you go from chronic to cold turkey, your body increases its metabolism to burn the fat to purge the thc. i have been heavy into weight training and fitness so for somone like me to lose almost 10 lbs in a week without changing diet is quite odd. i eat very clean and have for 8+ years. No dairy , No gluten, 80+% organic foods, No processed junk foods of any kind. Went from having a starvation style eating disorder in highschool to being in great shape but now im slightly concerned that im going to lose all the hard work ive put in. any ideas?

Pot can increase your metabolism. I'm a first time pot smoker after 33 years. Only smoked for about 6 months I've lost over 40lbs. So I asked the doctor and she said that pot can assist with weight loss. And yes I do get the munchies and eat very well after I smoke. But... I have lost weight. As well... My boyfriend quit smoking and he has gained 20 lbs. So YES POT EFFECTS WEIGHT IN SOME PEOPLE

I completely disagree I used to be 14 stone I have smoked weed everyday for 12 years and I'm now down to 9 and a half stone an look horrible even though you eat more when smoking cannabis it alters your metabalism so your body absorbs less. And it became a problem when i couldnt eat sleep or work without a smoke and all my family disowned me because I would do anything to get money for cannabis.

I use to smoke weed everyday, I found myself smoking at least 1.5 grams a day and needless to say i burnt through quite a lot of money doing so. I started smoking weed regularly at about 13 year old and by the time I was 15 it was a daily thing for me and all i really cared about. I was quite heavy at that 13 i don't know what my weight was but I was fat that's for sure. I lost weight quite rapidly partially through smoking so much weed, I would be so into watching movies and sitting around smoking bongs with my mates that sometimes id go a couple of days without eating a thing, in the beginning i did get munchies but that soon wore of and it was rare if I got them. Eventually I ended up like a stick I was so thin i couldn't believe the weight id lost although I was extremely unhealthy. Im now 21 and I stopped smoking about 8 months ago It was hard at first, I suffered severe anxiety attacks and ended up in hospital twice but i got through it. I also substituted weed with eating quite a lot and have gain quite a lot of weight I understand this may not happen to everyone but it is a possibility, having a pass time is important to quiting.

I appreciate this post was over a year ago but wanted to offer my take for anyone just discovering this. Weed speeds up your metabolism, eating munchies while your high merely feeds your faster metabolism... In addition to this weed is something that very silently intwines with most basic bodily functions such as eating, going to the toilet and sleeping. Often regular uses of pot will want to smoker before each meal, and even of they do not due to the increased metabolism these meals are being burned away much faster then the average non smoker. Therefore, if you give up weed the most likely case is yes you will increase in weight starting after a couple of weeks when the metabolism returns to it's natural speed. It's a this point the standard advice to non smoker becomes applicable, regular exercise and a healthy diet will naturally help your metabolism keep it's balance.

You would honestly be better off asking Google than these clueless m****s. Cannabis contains cannabinoids, in each of our bodies is a canibinoid system that is designed to produce and use cannabinoids. The purpose of the canibinoid system is to control metabolism and immune system. There is a chance that you could put on weight due to your canibinoid system being depleted to "normal" levels of canibinoid production. This is just temporary and happens because your system is so used to having so much excess cannabinoids that when reduces back to normal levels your body registers said levels as being low. Given time your body will readjust to normal canibinoid levels and all will be well. Giving up smoking be it weed or ciggs doesn't make u gain weight. Neither does the eating you do to distract you from your craving. What makes you gain weight is sitting on your arse all day while eating comfort foods because you feel sorry for yourself through your craving. My advice?....... Rather than eating through your craving go forba run, get on a treadmill, people complain about gaining weight after quitting smoking but really, it's because they mope around stuffing their faces all depressed about it. The hormone changes when one is depressed are more likely to cause weight gain/loss that smoking or giving up smoking ia likely to cause weight loss/gain. Point being, of you sit around stuffing your face feeling sorry for yourself you get fat. If you take the time between eating to be active and physically push past your addiction rather than scoffing your way through it you end up with a body of a Greek god/goddess and live ten years longer :) .. go for it!
