I am a healthy 20 year old, great hygiene, wash face nightly. For the last few months I have had raised welts starting on my eye lids and moving around my whole face. It starts out being itchy and progresses into a swollen, welted, red, hot area. It last anywhere from 1-4 days and once it “heals” it leaves a dry flakey area. I have tried switching my make-up 3 times, I have changed my face wash and I have no idea what else to do. The first Dr. I went to thought it was a sign of infection (mrsa) and put me on antibiotics. A week later I woke up and my eyes were swollen shut and I had red welt like areas on my face. I went to urgent care and the Dr. said he had no idea and gave me an allergy prescription. Still nothing worked. Then I went to my eye Dr. worried this could affect my vision and he said its allergies. From the seasons changing. So he gave me some eye drops. Still nothing has worked. I now have itchy red swollen welts moving around my face, one day it will be under my eyes, the next it will be on my chin and cheek. I am out of ideas, I’m sick of all this I can’t figure it out. I am a clean healthy girl, this should not be happening. Idea? Please help.

Hello,

It really does sound like you have an allergy.  My guess is that it is your makeup.  You know that makeups always say they are hypoallergenic but really what does that mean.  It means that some people will be allergic to it.  I'm allergic to perfumes, dyes and soaps.  Once I get a reaction from this I have great difficulty getting rid of it.  However, I did find that if I apply ponds cold cream to wash my skin, my burning, itching and rash tend to go away a few days later.  I would suggest that you stop wearing make up all together and use ponds (no facial scrubs they are harsh and will add insult to injury) and see if after a few months you face stabilizes.  I have found that the only make up I can wear is Bare Minerals and in fact it improves my skin.  You might consider trying that.
