Hi I was newly diagnosed for rapid gastric emptying. One thing I haven't heard from anyone yet but I have an aching/ burning sensation that sits at the top of my stomach about 2 inches below my breast bone.Have anyone expierienced this discomfort?
Good morning, I had the same test done 3 years ago and wasn't told about the results until this summer because the doctor who ordered the test didn't think it was accurate because I never had any gastric bypass or any kind of surgeries for my GI system. So my weight has been outrageous and major issues with constipation and always feeling full. My new doctor gave me a laxative to take twice a week because I can't take the medicine they give which is for anxiety and depression due to side bad effects and has me taking a fiber supplement and eating every 3 hours very small meals. She advised me to cut out all sugary drinks and cut back on the starchy foods because they will make the symptoms worse. So far so good, its just hard to stay on a eating schedule with work which makes it harder especially with trying to lose weight. Has anyone been told how it happens if you haven't had any surgeries??
i was diagnosed with dumping syndrome 10 years ago after suffering for two years with no help. UCSF figured it out in one day and prescribed me a $10 prescription which CURED me within one year, no symptoms....I have been good for this last decade and now symptoms are back. I will go to dr today and ask for the prescription to be filled.....Amitriptyline!!! Elavil! It is a cheap tricyclic antidepressant that worked for me like a miracle, hope it works for me again.....Oh, and no I never had any gastric surgery...my condition is brought on by stress and anxiety...I have a severe anxiety disorder and OCD....when I am disturbed profoundly in my personal life, this comes on...the last time and this time.
UCSF is located were? I have tried Amitriptyline but effects my heart rhythm big time. Interesting about the stress because mine has been coming on and off but now it's real bad. I just work through it which sucks.
I have just started with this issues of gastric dumping and trying to figure it out also. Your approach to meds I would like to understand. Do you have issue with your blood sugar? I have no issues so not sure why i would take this? Any issues with anxiety since I read something later in this thread that gastric dumping was brought on and the amitripline helpped. I get stressed so anxiety is high for me.
I have constant burning and indigestion in this area
I also have rapid gastric emptying, and have never had gastric bypass or any other surgery.
What has eluded so many doctors has been the fact that I can go months without symptoms. When I do have them, it starts with a feeling of extreme cold--literally teeth-chattering and shivering, accompanied by nausea. The symptoms only go away after dumping. Sometimes 3+ episodes of diarrhea, and then the cold will subside. Almost always at night, for some reason. Some episodes, I have a sensation of extreme fullness (even if I've eaten virtually nothing) typically with nausea and/or dumping.
A few years ago, I couldn't eat ANYTHING without dumping, so I put myself on the Candida diet (depriving your body of ANY form of sugar, including all starchy foods like beans/potatoes/carrots, as well as dairy, and any vinegar other than apple cider vinegar). I lived on meat (nothing processed), vegetables and nuts. I also took probiotics, and supplements: magnesium, copper, iron and selenium. In 3 weeks, I dropped 11 pounds (so I might not recommend this to people who are already underweight) but my symptoms subsided COMPLETELY. Within a couple months, I was able to eat completely normally, even including small amounts of alcohol, which I hadn't been able to drink in over two years.
I have had the symptoms come back in the last few months, so I am thinking about putting myself back on the Candida diet.
I hope this helps!

Take a teaspoon of baking soda. You can mix it in some water or drink water after you take it. Wait 5-10 minutes. If pain is not gone, repeat the process. Do not use every day because it can make stomach acid worse. I use it for emergency pain relief. It works better and faster than any other medicine. I do take Prylosec every day. Hope the baking soda helps. I carry some wherever I go. An empty pill bottle works well for a purse or pocket.
Any update? I'm interested to hear how the Dr was going to fix the issue. Thanks in advance
I to have not had any surgery, and have had the same symptoms that you have mentioned. I also had the test where the gave me the eggs and said that I am emptning with in the half hour time fram . My Dr, had no answer eather .
This sounds identical to what I’ve experienced pretty much since childhood until now at 34. I went paleo for a while and it helped a ton but it’s so hard to maintain that diet especially since I’m nursing. Out of curiosity did you ever pinpoint Foods that triggered you in particular?
I was just diagnosed about a month ago with dumping syndrome. I have not had any weight loss surgeries but have had laparoscopic for my hysterectomy and gall bladder removal (maybe that still messes with the inner workings, idk). I have been experiencing the symptoms for about a year now, thought it was a bug the first few times, then COVID hit and I dealt with it on my own until things started to open again. So far my GI dr has done a colonoscopy and an abdomen cat scan, both which came back fine in regards to my GI system. I'm not sure now what to keep pushing for. I go weeks to months with the diarrhea (like every 10 min or so for several hours - I am too afraid to eat or drink when it happens as I don't want to give it anything else to get rid of). After it runs its course, then I'll go for periods with constipation (I see responses are showing having diarrhea or constipation as a symptom) - kind of. (Back story: My son was diagnosed about 12 years ago with Hirschsprung's Disease - at age 18. Based on his symptoms, my belief is that it was genetically passed from my line, as I had the same issues, as did my mother (not sure before her). So, that makes me wonder then if after so many years of that being untreated (if I truly have it - no one has bothered to check, despite me telling them the family history), if it took its toll and now using dumping to eliminate it.) So, I'm curious as to why all of a sudden, (I'm 48 y/o), it has begun happening. I have never changed my diet, and my lifestyle hasn't changed too much, maybe a little more sedentary than when I was raising my kids.
Yes I have! It feels like more of a gnawing sensation though..
I was diagnosed with RGE about a year ago. No prior GI surgeries. Normal BM's. 98% of my stomach was empty before the 1st test was completed. No need to give me the 2nd,3rd or 4th round of scans.
I was prescribed an anti-emetic but after doing some research, found that it shouldn't be taken with my antidepressant so I don't take any RX's, i just wear a nausea band daily. I haven't been able to pinpoint any foods that trigger the nausea.
Here's my theory: I think it's related to the Vagus nerve. I often have a weird sensation of tingling all over my body, then comes a flash of REALLY bad nausea, which triggers a sneeze that makes the tingling even worse for just a moment but the nausea is gone. Does anyone else have this?
