i just started taking lexapro, and i drink and smoke weed regulary. and i kno my doctor said if i smoke weed and drink on lexapro it will just make me more depressed and all that stupid sh*t. but i was wondering if someone had first had experince with drinking and taking lexapro, and what the result is? cause im young and stressing out about it! and i dont want to do the wrong thing and for mad sh*t to happen..
DO what the doctor says you dunce. I was young and stupid once too and I'm paying for it now. Stop all the extra curricular activity and just go with the Lexapro.

I agree. Listen to your doctor!!

I've had 2 really bad reactions to drinking while on Lexapro. Both times involved drinking shots. I had the second reaction this weekend and believe me I think I finally learned my lesson.

The first time it was more of a day after thing. I had the worse hangover, I was sick all day, couldn't keep anything down, and I was jittery all day. At first I just chalked it up to getting older.

This Saturday I had a few drinks and then I had the bright idea to do 2 shots in a row. We have an agreement that when we go out, one is the designated driver and the other gets to party. Obviously it was my turn to party. Prior to being on Lex I have had the same amount to drink without any major problems. All of a sudden it hit me. I was really feeing it so we left. By the time we got to the car, I was so out of it I fell in the snow and my husband had I hard time getting me up because I was so out of it. We got home and after another tumble I made it in the house and to the bathroom in time to get sick. I felt weird and scared and freaked out a bit. I remember it all. I was crying and yelling that "I was bad and stupid for drinking" and I "felt wrong" and we came very close to calling 911. But after getting sick (a lot) I finally calmed down. I ended up sleeping on the bathroom floor in dirty clothes for about an hour or so because I wouldn't left my husband near me because I was not exactly neat when getting sick. He stayed with me for a bit and then he checked on me in regularly. After I woke up I was fine except for the beginning of another horrible hangover. Sick at both ends all day. My stomach hurt like it never did before. Insane killer headache. I was shaky and jittery all day. Pretty much a nervous wreck. Just imagine the worst hangover magnified.

I came on line to see if others have bad reactions to drinking while on Lex and I've found others describing similar experiences. I'm thankful this didn't happen out in public as it was quite early when this all went down. I will never, ever do this again. Not while I'm on Lex. I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake I did.

I will say that I can tell the med is affected if I drink. I take Lexapro and if I drink more than one drink, I will get a mood dump (back to the bad days) about 24-48 hours after drinking. I don't like the mood dump, so I've restricted my drinking to the occasional social with a meal.

It will affect the med. You will get the best results if you don't drink.

Honestly, I have never noticed anything. I don't regularly drink, I am a bit of a binge drinker. If anything it seems to reduce the effects of alchohol for me. It's seems to be harder to be drunk or to get there. It's going to vary with each person, so be careful.

I am a freshman in college and have been on lexapro for 3 years. Being around the party scene has been very difficult for me, wanting to have fun with all my friends who drink. I barely drink half the amount my friends do before i start feeling the effects of the alcohol. The next day I cannot keep any food down and feel severely depressed. I keep thinking that if I drink less I will no longer have these side effects but I am wrong. From what I have read lexapro affects different people in different ways. Do not test your limits.

On 20mg Lexapro I have never had worse hangovers. I do drink regularly, and often binge drink. I don't smoke weed, but me and weed don't really agree anyway.

Before I went on Lexapro I rarely had hangover. Now it feels like it doesn't take much for me to feel horrible the next day. And so often I feel both physically and emotionally terrible the next day. The emotions feel like the depression I used to feel x10. It's horrible!

The other effect that is probably even worse for me is that my memory while drinking is horrible. I've had so many nights where I can't remember what I did or what I said even if I seemed to others to be relatively normal. It just completely blasts my memory, which to me sucks because I actually have a lot of fun when I'm out drinking with my friends.

In summary -- avoid alcohol if you're on Lexapro. There are a ton of downsides.
