Hi,

I'm a 30 year old female. I had a laparascopy 8 days ago to identify an on-going 18 month pain in my lower right abdomen. This found adhesions from an appendix removal 3 years ago and also found adhesions on my left adhering my bowel to my left ovary. I have been very sore for the last few days after op with the classsic shoulder pain cased by gas i assumed, which appears to be better now.
I am concerned as i have had a pain beaneath my right rib which doesn't seem to be getting any better. The pain is sharp and restrictive and I have had this since the surgery.
It doesn't hurt when i lay down but hurts when i breath deeply, even though my other pains from the op appear to be decreasing with time which is good news.
I do find that when i stand up straight and stretch the pain decreses but it is causing me to walk slightly bent over as it hurts. Other than this i feel quite well, but a little fed up with this pain that is starting to now concern me.

Is it normal to have pain in this region after a Laparoscopy for so long after the op? What could it be?
Hello, I know this is over a year old but I came across this when trying to work out this exact pain in the exact scenario as you and I wondered how yours turned out?

Hello, Lisa.

These are some of the possible causes of your pain:

1. Injury to the ribs during the procedure: Injury to the ribs during a laparoscopy is an uncommon but potentially serious complication of the procedure. This can cause pain and tenderness in the area of the rib that was injured.

2. Post-procedure soreness or inflammation: It is common to have some soreness and inflammation in the area around the incisions after the procedure. This may cause pain in the ribs.

3. Gas pain: Gas pain is a common side effect of laparoscopy, and can cause pain in the ribs.

4. Muscle pain: The muscles in the area of the ribs can become strained or sore after the procedure due to the positioning of the body during the surgery.

5. Infection: An infection can occur at the site of the incisions or in the abdomen, and can cause pain in the ribs.
