I am a 23 year old female on post op day 2 (tonsils out March 3, 2016). The pain so far is bearable. It hurts of course, but given my horrible bouts of tonsillitis I had have, it is no worse than that. I am able to drink plenty of fluids and stay well hydrated and I am taking my liquid Codenine every 4 hours on the dot, adding in IB Profiein at the 2 hour mark in between. I recommend setting an alarm at night every 2ish hours just to drink some water to try to prevent a dry throat when you wake up in the morning AND keep your head elevated while you sleep.
It's night time now so tomorrow will be day 3. I hope it does not get painful like others have explained but as of right now, it is definitely manageable. Good luck to everyone! Keep a good mindset from before your surgery until after. It helps!
I have had my share of surgeries in my life, I am 56 and had my tonsils out a little over a month ago and there is no pain compared to this so far. My doctor told me it would be bad but I was not prepared for how bad. I was kept in the hospital overnight and thank God for that, the nurses were angels while I vomited all night. Sleeping was impossible because it would dry out my throat and I would wake up crying. I stayed as drugged up as possible the first 7 days and dragged myself back to work on day 11. Day 13-14 the pain was back but miraculously woke up day 15 feeling much better. I still feel like I have spider website in my throat and my sense of taste seems differnt. Sleeping better and happy it's all behind me.
