to relieve pain and numbness I place a tennis ball just a bit forward of my right arm pit area, squeezing gently my arm to my rib cage. The pain is gone within seconds, and I'm able to sleep without numbness. For slight swelling that occurs I hold onto a damp wash cloth with ice inside or cold tap water running over the palm. During the day time the same activity with the tennis ball returns my ability to drive etc. I have had a nerve conduction study done to have the doctors tell me my ulnar nerve is in hyperactive state continuously, no therapy was suggested. We may not have a cure for this yet, we do have ways to relieve the suffering without continuous pharmecuticals.
My daughter has exactly the same type of problem. She was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. There are three types .. arterial (where one of the ribs may impinge the blood flow), venous which may cause the skin to get purplish or mottled, or neurogenic .. which is the nerve compression.
