Well, today was my colonoscopy and second dilation.  First off, the prep I used was MoviPrep.  That was so much better than what I had before (it was a gallon of awful stuff that made me sick to my stomach).  Not that it tasted good, but it wasn't near as bad as the other stuff plus it was only a half gallon to drink.  I felt good this morning going in too, and had no nausea afterward.  And I feel really good and perky already.  Usually the anesthesia makes me feel weak and tired for the rest of the day.

But I got some unexpected news.  The doctor found a polyp, which is scary.  To make it even scarier, when he switched from the tool to cut it off to the one to pick it up he couldn't find it.  So I get to collect and search my BMs and hopefully find the polyp so they can see if it's cancerous or not.

The good thing about having this complication from my hemorrhoid surgery is that I was talked into getting a colonoscopy.  Otherwise, I would have continued to put it off since I had problems with the first one.  And that polyp would have just kept on growing and growing.

My doctor is pretty sure he'll need to do another dilation and also wants to do either another colonoscopy or a sigmoidoscope in 6 months.

Here's hoping my BMs are more normal and I find that polyp!

How did your doctor visit go Sassycat?

Hi tb

Sorry for the late reply. I'm glad you had a colonoscopy and checked out everything. I'm sorry about polyp. That's so weird that doctor would not find it. I don't think you should not worry much about polyp. I have read some post on the other anal fissure forum and lots of people had polyp and they had removed it and seems like ok. Don't worry about cancer. I think it should be just fine.

I went to see my surgeon and when he examined it did not hurt much but I had pretty bad relapse on the next 2-3 days. I started having pain and discomfort reached its highest ;( seems like fissure got irritated.

i'm still seeing my accupuncturist and according to him my pelvic floor got traumatized by birth and some nerves got damaged. Actually I kind of believe him since my symptom got worse right before I get my period. Seems like what I'm dealing with is that combination of birth trauma and slow recovery hem surgery ;(

I hope we both get better soon.

Please let me know what happen to the polyp. Try not to get stressed about it even though it is hard. remember the time you were giving me the encourage earlier? I'm not giving you good support but I will be here if you ever want to talk or discuss

oh about coconut oil : its good for the fissure healing. Also if you want to dilate it by yourself or massage the scar tissue coconut oil is the best.

I did find the polyp.  It was pretty weird looking.  It's not cancerous, so that's great.

It sounds like you're finding out more about what caused your problem, which is the first step towards getting them fixed.  I've heard a lot of good things about acupuncture, although I haven't tried it myself.

Stay positive!

That's really great news!

My obgyn referred me someone who does pelvic physical therapy. I will try her as well. I don't know if this kind of therapy could help with the scar tissue. i will ask her when I see her. But it is very expensive though ;(

Hopefully I will not need that many times

Yeah, staying positive really helps me get through the day. Now, big worry thing is coming up. I supposed to go back to work on april 5,2013. But Im not ready at all. I still can't go any of the public restroom! also my baby is too small to leave.

if I don't go back to work they will ask me to pay back all the insurance they have been paying for me while i was disabled. who knows how much it is.

But im trying not to get depressed. I think i can find some solution.

how are you these days? how well can you function after bm? how long does it hurt after bm?

My butt feels a little sore after a BM, but that's minor and goes away pretty quickly.  It's just a bit of burning and tenderness.  When I take a sitz bath after a BM, it goes away much more quickly.  I just need to be able to have a BM without taking laxitives or stool softeners.  It looks bigger now, so yesterday I took no laxative yet it was still soft today.  I'm going to continue this for a while and just use an enema if I think I need it.  I want to try several days of just using diet to regulate my BMs so I can have a good idea how much better it is when I see the doctor again next Thursday.

I don't know what kind of work you do, but can you start back part time or work from home?  It's not like you're faking things, although most people don't understand these types of problems if they haven't been through it themselves.  I never had a kids, but can imagine how difficult it would be to go back to work when your baby is so small.  I hope you can get them to agree to some sort of compromise.

I read a post on this forum by someone else who went to a physical therapist to learn the proper position for having a BM.  It helped them, so maybe that will help you too.  And hopefully quickly so you won't need too many visits.  My husband had physical therapy for his back, so I know how costly it can be.

Good luck!

HI,

yeah, warm bath really helps me a lot too. I'm glad you are getting better without surgery. Try to reduce laxative gradually. Make sure do not go suddenly. Do you eat vegetables? They make your stool really soft (for me gives me diarrhea)

I just talked with my manager and I will meet her tonight and try to explain my situation and see what options do I have. I think she will understand me. I hope so

I just called my insurance and they will only pay $25 per visit for my physical therapy. The therapist said that first visit is $165 and next per visits are each $135. I will try first visit for sure and I will decide from there. our financial already has been tough ... don't know what's going to happen. all i know is that I want to be normal ASAP.

btw, i live in sf bay area and i was wondering where do you live. if you happen to live close by it would be nice to get together sometime ;)

good luck with your thursdays apnt

I'm not close at all unfortunately. I live in Indiana. I've visited San Francisco several times and attended classes and conferences there for work. It's a great area. It would be nice to meet in person, but it's been years since I've been to the west coast.

I do eat lots of fruit and veggies. I was tapering the laxatives and decided to try at least a couple days without them. I eat prunes every day too, which helps a lot.

Hi Bryan. I just had another visit to my surgeon this morning. I'll be having another dilation under anesthesia Monday. I'm still hoping I can get "big enough" through dilation. At least he can now examine me with an index finger. In the beginning it was extremely painful when he used his little finger. So after 2 dilations, it's better. He said if I was too frustrated with my progress he could do an anoplasty. He would cut out the scar tissue and bring skin and fat from my butt cheeks into my anus as a flap to replace the tissue he cuts out. From what I've read, there is a chance of fecal incontinence (leaking poop) so I hope to avoid this surgery.

My scar tissue is just inside my anus. Have you had a digital exam yet? Have they said how small your opening is? I definitely recommend a colon/rectal surgeon over a general surgeon since they see a lot more of these cases.

Hi tb1,

You are really far away from me ;(

How are you doing these days?

I'm better if I dont have a diarrhea.

Hi Bryan,

Does it bother you? for me dilation has been working good so far. also i started massaging the scar tissue with coconut oil. it will take time to heal dont give up. things get better eventually

Here's the latest on my situation.  I saw my doctor yesterday and while he says anoplasty is still an option and a possibility, he recommends giving it time.  The digital examination, while not painless, was much easier than before.  Only a little pain and discomfort.  He thinks that having regular BMs will continue to stretch my anus and soften the scar tissue.  I have another appointment in 3 months.  While I'm still not "normal", I now have hope that I will be normal eventually.

Hello girls,

Please don't exchange privately. I am fully following your posts and suggestions, and about to write my story now:

I has external(combined) hem surgery on 7.02.2013, by now I still experience inching during BM and after. Moreover last 10 days it became had to have BM, I have to push very much to get it outside, and result is quite thin.

I suspect stensosis to be appearing, though my doctor does not confirm it yet. He is general surgeron, and I am about to find some specialized in proctology.

I am living in Latvia, europe country.

Hey everyone. Is this thread still going? Just recently had a PPH surgery (very painful process). The pressure post surgery caused a thromosed external, which I had removed 3 weeks ago. Now that it looks somewhat normal down there, there is scarring which feels very raw and painful. BMs feel like glass exiting. Will this settle and go away or is this something that is going to have to be worked with through dialation or surgery? Is there something more i can do (other then putting the neosporine type meds on it my doc recommended) to help the scarring and pain? Im a 28 year old male who eats well and is very active, just to inform you of my situation.

I have had surgery after surgery to get rid of the scar tissue it just makes it worse. I get relief for a little while then the pain starts back intense burning pain that takes over your live. There is no easy solution.
