hi everyone,

i'm 25 weeks pregnant and just noticed the same thing, numbness in the front of my left thigh for a little under a week. from my internet research, it looks like it's meralgia paresthetica which can be caused by pregnancy, and a few other things for those people who have similar symptoms and aren't pregnant! i'm seeing my doc on friday but check out that online or ask your doctor if that's what you could have. it's basically about your discs and isn't too much of a deal and at worst may need surgery to fix. :-)

I am 22 weeks pregnant and for the past week I have been experiencing alot of pain in my right thigh down to my ankle. The pain is dull, nagging and at times feels numb.
It almost feels like I ran a marathon in flip-flops and have a really bad case of lactic acid build up in my reight lieg with a extra dose of shin splints!!
I am not scheduled to see my doctor until my 6mth check-up but I'm not sure whether I can wait. The pain gets so bad at times that I can't walk, stand or sleep.
I heard that heating pads work, but to stay away from balms that can be absorbed into the skin. I was thinking about going for a massage to relieve the constant nagging numbness/pain.
I would prefer not to take Tylenol but it looks like I don't have a choice!!
Does anyone have any other usefull suggestions?

I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have Meralgia Paresthetica in my run thigh which is driving me insane. The pain and numbness happens when I lie down , walk , stand etc .. I'm going mad and the only thing my doctor gave me was a mild sleeping tablet to take every 3 nights as I also can't sleep. Tried mild painkillers, stretching, heat packs, lying down.. Nothing works... Can anyone help.

I'm not pregnant but I have had the leg pain, numbness, burning, falling down, etc. I have a bulging and torn disc, L5 S1. I have lived with the pains for the last 7 years and along the way I have seen many doctors but my therapist gave me the best advice.
There is no real cure, but there are things that I do on regularly to help. The list seems to go on forever but maybe it will help some one.
Ice and Heat - First I Ice for 20 min. then Heat for 20 min. every hour to two hours.
Muscle Rub - On my lower back, I have some one rub it on for at least 20 to 30 min.
Towel Roll - I take a towel and fold it in half long ways and then roll it. I then lay down on the side that is not painful and put the towel under my waist. This helps to pull the spine apart to help release pressure.
Sitting like you're in a chair on the floor - I sit like I'm sitting in a chair only I'm lying on the floor. My back is flat on the floor with my bottom up against a couch with my legs lying on the seat of the couch. I also do this lying in bed with a bunch of pillows stacked under my legs.
Cat, Camel - I get on all fours and push my stomach to the floor and then by back to the ceiling (Kind of like rolling my hips in and the out). I do this about 20 times.
Standing - I put my feet shoulder width apart and place my hands on my lower back, top of my bottom and roll my hips in and out.

None of these things make the pains completely go away but my physical therapist recommends them and for me they do help to get through the day.
I hope this helps someone. Best of luck to all.

Sorry to hear that you are going through this too, but so glad I'm not alone. I've increasing numbness since my first trimester. Now 27 weeks and the numbness is terrible and all the time. If I stand or walk for any time at all, it turns into terrible burning pain. I was also experiencing some dizziness, so the doc put me in prescription compression stocking (super sexy). They seem to help both issues some but not entirely. The problem is the stockings are so uncomfortable that I'm not sure which is worse. The stocking feel pretty good in the morning, except they tend to cut into the back of my knees and it gets really annoying throughout the day. So I'm at a loss until I see the doc again next week. Massage, acupuncture and chiropractic feel good, but they don't seem to really help the symptoms. I will mention that deep massage in my right buttock and hip (my pain is on the right side) seems to help for a little while, if anything - it just feels sooo good. Three more months of this, huh?

One other thing...the chiro gave me a back and belly support belt called the Stork Sport (how's that for a cheesy name?). It sometimes helps with the burning and numbness when I know I'm going to be out running around to errands or shopping. But it's pretty uncomfortable when I'm sitting at work or in the car for a long time - too much pressure on my lower belly. I think it helps because it lifts my belly and encourages my hips to tuck. Good luck to all of you.

Hi all, I am also experiencing terrible burning pain and numbness to my right hip, upper anterior thigh and lateral thigh. I am 18 weeks pregnant and my doctor today told me that it is likely meralgia paresthetica. I've been doing a little online research and it looks like although it will likely be a pressing issue for the duration of this pregnancy, with any luck the symptoms will dissipate after delivery. To those of you experiencing the same, I know how you feel!

I have had burning, numbing pain in my left thigh, from the top center down the outside of the thigh. Today, I am at my office and I can't stand to have my trousers on next to it. It is so unbelievably sore today. My doctor said there is a nerve that runs from the trunk of the body, in the front, and it goes down into the thigh. He said because I was overweight, the nerve is dying and that is why I am experiencing the numbness in the thigh. He said that it will evidentally die and the pain will stop. I lost over 60 pounds but the pain is far worse today than ever. I am so confused by all of this, but I am not sure if that is correct or not. I would really like to know what causes this sort of pain and how to stop it. I have had this for over a year now and I have great-grandchildren, so pregnancy is not the case here. :-(

I have a constant numbness, pain, itch etc in my left thigh...unbearable...went to physio and they said its caused by the hormone relaxin which loosens the pelvis and in turn creates related pain blahblah blah but she gave me this support belt and said it would ease the pain...didnt believe her but it totally has and I cant function without it. Professional experiences massage also helps and Im positive an excellent chiropractor could resolve it...no good ones around here

I feel better in a way knowing that I am not the only one. The pain that has been in my left thigh for months now was starting to make me think that it was something serious. My doctor just makes me feel like I imagine things. I just wish there were a way for it to go away. I pray it does when this baby is born. She is due in 3 wks! :)

I use to weigh 274 pounds and I had this same problem, burning pain and numbness in my thigh/knee area. A neurologist told me to rub the over the counter cream, capsaicin on the affected area 3 to 4 times a day.I did this and after a week it reduced the symptoms alot. He also said that weightloss would be more of a permanent fix. I had gastric bypass surgery and afte losing the first 50 pounds the meralgia paresthetica did go away completely. Five years later i am currently 4 months pregnant and unfortunately as my tummy has gotten bigger, the symptoms have come back. My ob said that i could safely use the capsaicin cream to treat it. I have been and it is once again working great.

Ok. I've been having lots of pain in my right leg and its terrible! I am 6 months pregnant now. And to all of you who have then same pain, I've found a solution! Its simple really, my doctor told me to do this so I will get well physically and emotionally. The Solution is: Have sex with your partner. This will make you feel good. If it doesn't work, look for the people who have the same sex to reach orgasm with you. Now, i feel much better! Hurray for SEX!

It Is Your Sciatica Nerve Usually It Happens In Heavier People But Can Happen Mine Fire From Right Hip to My Knee And Just like tingles like Asleep But More Severe. As far as how get rid lot time chiropratic can adjust your lower back But if pregnant Once You Give the Birth Get the weight off Rather the baby you will be better Chances are its pushing on the nerve

Sciatica is pain resulting from irritation of the sciatic nerve. Sciatica pain is typically felt from the low back to behind the thigh and radiating down below the knee. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body and begins from nerve roots in the lumbar spinal cord in the low back and extends through the buttock area to send nerve endings down the lower limb.
