Hi,
I had my gallbladder removed 8 months ago and have been so sick. I am nauseous, no appetite, pain in upper abdomen, terrible bloating and at times can't breath. I never felt this way until after my surgery. I have a Ct scan, mrcp, endoscopy, and colonoscopy. They found gastritis and that's it, but in the meantime I keep getting worse and have lost 15lbs. My GI doc says I probably have IBS and gave me medicine twice that made me worse. I swelled so much and swell to the point of looking 7 months pregnant. My skin on my stomach is sore to touch. Its Christmas, I love to decorate and haven't yet because of how I feel. I cry often, and feel at a loss as to what to do. My regular doc has been great, she knows i am not faking it.

I felt fine the weekend after my surgery but come the Monday after...that is whent he pain started. It was so severe...I ended up back in the hospital with a Bile leak. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PAIN!!!!! I was in for 4 days with this procedure.
Went a week after those procedures and now am having some minor pain. Not sure if I am going to the doc about this or not.

I read up a lot prior to going for gall bladder removal (laparascopic) - was SCARED out of my whits.  Had operation done 29/11/2012.  Woke up with one bottle of pain meds that was connected to my IV in theathre.  I was offered more pain meds while admitted to hospital, but didn't need anything.  I was discharged on 01/12/2012 and have not experienced a single day of pain.  I have also been fortunate enough to be able to eat anything without experiencing any side effects.  This was the easiest / least painful operation that I've ever been for.  I am glad that I had it done.

I just had my gall bladder removed on 1/15 went through horrible pains in abdomen the next night.. Then on 1/17 was released. By 1/24 I was running a fever of 102.8 and had bad pain in adbomen. Within 2 hours I couldn't breathe right and my wife called 911. When I got back to the hospital where the surgery was done they put me on a breathing treatment and took blood. The blood tests showed an infection and they said it was pneumonia, they then did a ct scan of my lungs. They came back and said it wasn't pnuemonia and did a ct scan and ultrasound on my abdomen. They said I had fluid in my abdomen and needed to have a drain put in right away. THey took out over 60cc's of bile colored fluid and then after every 4-6 hours there was another 60cc's of fluid. I was put on antibiotics, and morphine for teh next 2 days. I came home on 1/28/13 and have an appointment with the surgeon on 1/31. Before I lewft teh hospital he saw me and said that he would probably remove the tube on 1/31 because the antibiotics should have killed off any infection by then. But I refuse to allow him to remove this drain tube while I'm still producing bile in my abdomen. I was angry that he even suggested that it wouldn't be problem if all the leakage hadn't completely stopped by then. I'm at a loss ofr what I should do once I see him. Any suggestions?

My husband just had his gallbladder removed on Friday 2/1/13. His case was severe and they put in a drain from the start . His drain also produced about the same amount of bile every 4-6 hours. Because of this bile, he had to have another procedure done where they go down the throat and place a stent where the leak is.He had this done on Wednesday 2/6. My Doctor is fantastic and explained to me that without the stent, changes are the site of the leak will not stop, and if it does, it will take months. I would suggest that you have this procedure done. The first 2 days after the procedure were extremely uncomfortable with a lot of the air/gas pain in the stomach and shoulders, but he found that walking really helped his pain. It is now Saturday 2/9 and he is much better, he can eat regular lower fat foods with no problem. They took his drain out yesterday, he was leaking NO fluid at all.

How long did you stick with the diet, acupuncture and homeopathic??? I am doing that now, surgery day looming... I was told it can take 2-6 months. I'm willing to wait honestly. I've only had one attack in 2 months and it was minor. And from all the hell it seems can come from surgery... I really want to try and avoid it.

I had my gallbladder removed on 3/8. I had only suffered one attack, but when I was admitted to the hospital over a year ago with pancreatitis, my doctor told me that I would have to have my galllbladder removed sooner or later. So, needless to say, after overcoming all of the pain and suffering in and out of the hospital, one gallbladder attack and boom, it needs to come out. I had the laproscopic procedure, but ended up with 6 incisions. I developed a red rash, and also a lump next to the main incision, which the doctor sliced open during a visit to the office and not expected, which ended up with an at home nurse visit due to having to pack the new incision. I now have an IR drain because of the abcess that has now been in for close to a month. I can barely eat anything and have lost more than enough weight. I am praying that this drain can be removed later this week. I understand all of stories of the pain from suffering from it so much. My main doctor actually had the nerve to yell at me to the point of bringing me to tears because I accidentally called in my pain scrip too early, but with being in and out of the dreaded er and put on so many pain meds, it was an honest mistake. On top of that, he also let me know that the er doctors don't care, and also just give you pain meds to keep you quiet. I was told that my gallbladder was the worst that my surgeon had seen in his career, but if I could go back I would have looked at any other alternatives than having to endure the pain and complications that this so called simple surgery should not be causing. My prayers go out to all that have had to deal with any of this.

After my gallbladder surgery Oct 2010, had long process of pain and stomach issues. To make a long story short, due to the gallbladder surgery and thyroid problems I have a stomach diesease called Gastroparesis. It's a rare stomach disease and is no cure. Basically my stomach is partially paralyzed. It's like having a stomach flu for the rest of your life. Taking medications but don't seem to help much. Still in lots of pain, discomfort, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea and constapation. There is no end to my misery. I can't eat normally. Can't have dairy, meats, raw vegis or skins. Can't digest them.

You will have to see a doc straight away, they could have nicked something while removing your gallbladder, if this is so your bile will be going into your tummy and will cause heaps of dramas and this needs to be drained, what they do is insert a tube into your tummy with a bottle connected to it which will drain your belly, If you don't get this seen to you could be worse off, i had to watch my mother go through it and she also was in alot of pain andin hospital as we speak. Please go back to your doctor.

I have been dealing with the gallbladder pain since 2006. The doctors had no idea what was wrong so I thought it was stress which gave me an acid taste in my mouth after the attack was over. It felt like someone stabbing me in the upper right corner of my stomach with a hot poker.  I was doubled over from the pain for 4 to 6 hours.  The attacks only happened 1 or 2 times a year, so I really was lead to believe it was stress.  On 4/15/13 after a trip to Lego Land and eating really bad food there, I had the attack start around 5pm. As the night went on the worse it got and this time I was getting sick and not feeling right at all.  Ant-Acids do neither help nor any other meds or drink, so don't fool yourself thinking something will work.  I dealt with the pain for 14 hours then my girlfriend said "no more Mr. Tough Guy".  I went to the ER and the staff was nice and doctor on duty believed it was my gallbladder. After an ultra sound it came back negative and here I am again thinking its stress and nothing more.  The doctor did not quit and ordered a CT scan and that is where they found a marble sized stone about to make its way into my bile duct.

My gallbladder was removed at 4pm on 4/15/13 and ran into the infection of the tube that was sticking out of my belly and now that was removed on 4/19/13 with meds to fight the infection.   I still sleep on my back and can't wait to sleep on my sides.  Food on the other hand is try it and prey it stays down or comes out normal.

I have been reading many stories of what is going on out there and there has to be more information somewhere.  My symptoms after surgery are as follows and I hope this helps some of you and gives you a peace of mind or understand what you're feeling.

After Surgery

Day 1.

Tired after coming home from hospital. Drinking lots of water and find it hard to go to pee, but am able when I relax.

Day 2.

Pain is more intense and still only able to pee.  Deep breaths hurt in the rib cage area and up and down all night from pain and the need to use the restroom.  Still not hungry, not even thinking of food.

Day 3.

Still tired and sleep a lot.  Right side is hurting and cannot take a deep breath yet. Still trying.  Only can pee still and sick of drinking water, so I switch to Ensure, Works great.

Day 4.

More pain in right side, eating cream of wheat and holding down.  Breathing still hurts and air bubbles moving around in stomach.

Day 5.

Still tired and breathing still hurts but getting better and sleep is getting better.  Feel very weak still and eating slowly but no fatty foods.

I'll stop here, but just know the breathing does hurt with the air bubbles and yes I thought I was going to die, but it passed.  Going Number 2 in the bath room is completely different and strange but I guess from the doctor says it’s all normal.  I wish everyone a speedy recovery and good health.  If your doctor tells you something you're not sure of and still feel pain.. Seek others and help please to be safe.

Update Day 15. Back to the ER again. Was having issues breathing and pain in right side when trying to breathe. Stayed over night again and come to find out, first they thought it was a clot, then I'm told it was fluid build up near my lungs and breathe deep and walk around more. I told the Doctor that is all I have been doing is walking around.

So here is an idea folks, remember just my idea... Doctors will poke and stick you every way they can just to tell you get up and walk more. You feel any pain, just breathe your way through it and walk it off. Food is going down good and staying down so go slow. Good luck everyone and I wish you all the best. The pain is still in the side, but the doc says, just normal and breathe. lol!
