I am a 50 y/o male. I was very active until I hit age 47. I have had a total hip replacement on my left side. I was told I have a vascular necrosis of both hips. I continue to have severe pain of the left and now the right is also extremely bad. My boss sends me home every day because he sees how bad I am limping around and the amount of pain I am in. Please give me some advice as to which route to take. I have medicare and I can't find an orthopedist who takes it. I really dread getting up every morning. Thank you, Mike

Hello,

which type of hip replacement did you have - ceramic, metal or plastic? All of these can cause problems after the hip replacement and recovery, each for their own reasons. For example, plastic ones can start to slowly chip away causing the damage to surrounding bone and tissue, which of course causes pain. Also, in some cases, the implant itself can dislodge and since it rubs directly on the bone, it causes it to become more sensitive and painful.

I'm afraid this is all guessing until you can get an x-ray of both your hips and have specialist look at it and see what exactly is the problem. Your physician can order an x-ray which should be covered by your insurance, however, specialist orthopedic opinion is unfortunately still not covered,

Hope anyone who knows bit more about medicare will reply to your post,

Nicole

Hi Nicole, Thank you for your input! Any input at this point is greatly appreciated. I have a ceramic on ceramic implant. I have not been right since the surgery. Approximately 12 weeks post op the doctor notified me that there was a recall on my hip because of some type of clip that was made slightly out of F.D.A. specifications. He will not see me, due to the insurance that I had at the time not paying and therefore I have a huge outstanding balance. I should also add that a year prior to the surgery I did some serious damage to my left knee while playing softball, (torn lateral collateral ligament) I am not sure if that comes into play with my severe pain. Today my pain level was so bad it made me neasous to the point where I broke out into a cold sweat and almost vomited. Thanks again, Mike

Hi Mike, it's just a far-fetch, but do you think it might be worth investigating into that specific hip implant type recall - finding out exactly which company was responsible and maybe if they have any way of helping you now since it very well might be that your problems are directly caused by their implant? Like I said, far-fetched, but anything at this point that would help you with the pain seems worth trying to me, Wish you all the best, Nicole
